I haven't seen Oma Lee since the early 1960s, when she was my Camp Fire Girl leader, but have always remembered her, and with great fondness. Those difficult days I seldom truly connected with people, so it would surprise me if anyone remembered. Oma's influence remains however. Though I wasn't in the group long, and hadn't been long in my Blue Bird group before that leader moved away, CFG activities and imagery helped bridge/heal gaps in my family life. I cried to read she had died. A picture she took of me in 1962 is one of the very few good ones, I think because the person taking it saw me in a good light. Things learned in Camp Fire lore cropped up throughout my life--from my attire in the old hippy days and general identification with Native Americans and pioneers, to an early and enduring concern for the environment as well as a deep solace in the connectedness of all nature, my 1st forays into researching family history--maybe even my obsession with collecting beads! Thank you, Oma. My condolences to your family. It looks like you led a fulfilled life and lived a true love story. I hope so. I wish I'd known you better and longer, but life is a swift stream with so many branches.
from a Christmas poem, "Fairy Faces," by Anonymous, 1907, found on a CFG website,
These the deep, tender records,
Sacred in all their meetness,
That, wakening purest fancies,
Soften us with their sweetness;
Thank you, and WOHELO,
