Patricia Blucher Obituary

You might remember Pat as the school teacher who became Miss Sacramento and Miss California 1951 and a National Finalist in the Miss America Pageant of 1952. A small town girl from Crescent City, CA, Pat lived an exceptionally exciting life turning down Hollywood offers to instead return to her love of teaching. Born Oct. 16, 1925 to Pearl and Allen Lehman, she spent her childhood years studying classical piano, swimming the wild and scenic Smith River & stocking shelves at her father's Bay City Market. Pat studied Early Childhood Education at Humboldt State College and completed her studies in education and music at UOP in Stockton, CA. Throughout her 35 year teaching career, Pat led student choirs and organized many talent shows. After retiring Pat joined the Sacramento Traditional Jazz Society playing piano with Sacramento's: No Name Jazz Band, the Absolute Jazz Band, Black Tuesday Jazz Band, the MusiCats, Dixon Firehouse Philharmonic Jazz Band and performed in the Sacramento Dixieland Jazz Jubilee. Most recently she enjoyed playing with Pat Blucher and the Jazzin' Gents. Married 51 years to Lester J. Blucher, Pat was a loving mother to sons Mark and Kent; grandmother to Gregg, Karissa & Bradley; and had six great-grand-children. She passed away Jan. 11, 2018 unexpectedly and peacefully after a brief illness in Sacramento at age 92. Pat is survived by her son Mark Blucher (Corinna), sister Lynn Morris & many loving friends and family. Please join us in celebrating her life by wearing a colorful or cheerful article of clothing on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018, 1:00pm, St. Mary Catholic Cemetery & Funeral Center, 6509 Fruitridge Road, Sacramento. Interment and reception to follow. The family thanks Triple R Adult Day Program & Home Instead Senior Care for their love and dedication to Pat in her final years of life. Remembrances can be made in Pat's name to the local SPCA or the Sacramento Traditional Jazz Society. She will be missed

A very special person. She was my 5th grade teacher at Pony Express. She was so kind and understanding. She was my favorite teacher. On fridays I remember we had free time to play all the latest music on the classroom turntable. I have so many great memories from that class. RIP.

Condolences to the whole family. I did not know she had passed. Have brought her up to friends a lot. My 4th grade teacher whom I had a crush on. Used to check out her & her mom at the grocery store I worked at by the zoo.

Ms. Blucher was my teacher 4th & 1/2 of 5th in the accelerated program At John Bidwell school in Sacramento. ALL of the students loved her, especially when she played songs like Waltzing Matilda on the upright piano. I wasn't a very good singer but she always made me feel like I was at least OK...hahahaha. We all knew she has been Miss California too. A truly beautiful person, inside & out. I still think about her & now realize how great a person & teacher she was. Anyone who knew her was lucky indeed. Condolences go to all her friends & family. From Cambodia, John Brown http://bit.ly/2EmtSCJ

Dearest condolences to your family. Mrs. Blucher was my 4th and 5th grade teacher in 1979-80. She was always my very favorite teacher and I remember how kind and patient she was, and how lucky we were to have music and song all of the time. I was so happy to reconnect on facebook, but sad I was never able to make it to see her band play. Those were my favorite and most memorable years of grade school and it's funny how all of the Pony Express kids are great friends no matter how many years have gone in between. She will always be fondly remembered.

I was one of the lucky ones who was able to have Mrs Blucher for one of my teachers. Caleb Greenwood 1954 and 1955. Front row both years. I was also able to reconnect with her at the 50 year reunion for Caleb Greenwood in the year 2000. What a wonderful day that was.

she was one of the best human beings and she was never my teacher but she treated all us kids as if we were...I remember she'd always say "hi" "hello" with a smile to a fourth grader? unheard of these days...teaching truly is one noble profession because these students/kids will always remember her as myself...love you Mrs. Blucher

Those of us who knew Pat were fortunate. First she was my teacher, then a musical peer. She was a classy lady and a true joy. I will miss her very much. My thoughts are with her family.

Mark, My condolences to you and your family. Pat was my 4th Grade teacher at William Land Elementary and someone I will never forget as my favorite teacher, especially for her piano playing for the school assemblies. I was so happy to have a reunion with her in 2001 and share memories.

My condolences to Mark and family. I was friends with Kent until my family moved. Your mother taught with my mother for many many years. She had a kind heart and treated us well every time I would see her. Kent and I loved her Olds 442,I think she gave it to Kent later on. The world needs more people like Pat Blucher!!
