Patrick Sampson Obituary

SAMPSON, Patrick John
Oct 19, 1938 - Aug 10, 2005

Passed peacefully into the arms of God on the morning of August 10. Through his typical Irish stubbornness and determination, and with his typical good nature, humor, optimism and loving spirit, he defied doctors for many months before succumbing to the brain tumor he was diagnosed with last fall. He died at home surrounded by loved ones, at the age of 66.
Pat came to California from Ireland in 1963 and here met and married the love of his life, Breda O'Brien, who was born in the Glen of Aherlow, Co. Tipperary, a short distance from Ballylanders, Co. Limerick where Pat himself was born in 1938, to parents John and Margaret. Pat was a devoted husband and father and he and Breda spent 34 very happy and very loving years together.
Pat was an intelligent, inquisitive man whose interests spanned most topics under the sun. Though he completed his formal education at Thurles College in Ireland, he spent the rest of his life learning. He worked tirelessly and with dedication in his chosen fields and his quick smile, relaxed nature and ready willingness to help made him many friends.
Few have ever heard his voice raised in anger, and all who knew him felt their lives touched by his kind and gentle ways.
He will continue to be an inspiration to those who survive him; his wife Breda, son Kevin, daughter Patricia and "bonus daughter" Paula, his brothers William and Thomas, Thomas's wife, Kathleen and their children, his brother John and John's wife, Kathleen and their children Sinead, Jackie, and Simon and his wife Shirpa. He will be greatly missed by many good friends and relatives.
A Rosary will be held at Wilson & Kratzer Chapel of the Mission Bells, 13644 San Pablo Avenue in San Pablo on Sunday, Aug. 14 at 2:30 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 7th St. and Vaqueros Ave. in Rodeo on Monday, Aug 15 at 11:00 a.m. A memorial service will follow at St. Rose Church in Roseville (date to be determined).
In lieu of flowers, donations in Pat's memory may be made to St. Patrick's Church or to The Donkey Sanctuary, Liscarroll, Mallow, Co. Cork, or to another charity of your choice.

Pat was a truly amazing person and a wonderful uncle. I owe so much to Pat for giving me the life that I have today. He gave me the opportunity to live my dreams and make the world my oyster by inviting me to America in 1992. For that I will be forever grateful. I will always remember him, especially at Thanksgiving, a family holiday in America that Pat made very special for me.

Pat…. I will truly miss you, Rest in Peace. All my love, Simon.

Pat was a man who loved people and loved life. In over four years of living with him I never heard a mean word or saw a selfish action. He taught me about putting others first, about selflessness, and about kindness. Those whose lives intertwinned with Pat's received a very special gift from God. Pat... I love you and miss you!
