HE WAS A TREASURE! my condolences to the family!
I was a student in his American Political Thought and study of Marxism classes offered at California State University, Sacramento. His classes were very challenging. He certainly had a reputation for being a tough instructor. A lot of students didn't enjoy the challenge. I was inspired by it! A "B" grade in his class was like an A+. I was an "accomplished" student and was shocked when I received a "C" on an essay examination. I was disappointed until I realized most of the class fared far worse. He would only accept three pages of narrative. I still use his lessons about writing. I still have and have reviewed my class notes! My understanding of the U.S. Constitution I received from this great educator. Additionally, I learned how to write more effectively. As an educator I have shared the lessons I learned from him. He was a treasure! God bless him!

Dr. Goldstene was my FAVORITE professor at CSU Sacramento when I attended from 1994 - 1996. I loved his lectures, his books, and our conversations. He has absolutely shaped my career and academic pursuits. His memory lives on as I teach at Portland State University and reference his ideas from the Collapse of the Liberal Empire. Thank you, Dr. Goldstene, for your passion, service, and your great mind that you shared with so many.

My sincerest sympathies to the Goldstene family on the passing of their patriarch. Professor Goldstene was one of the most distinguished members of the academic community, not just for his teaching at CSUS but beyond in the literary world. Besides possessing a keen intellect, he had a wry wit and disarming charm that his students came to value. I never had the pleasure of taking his classes but he never held that against me, always finding time to chat at any occasion where we present together.
Sadly, we are losing so many of his generation on a daily basis. This makes it all the more incumbent on us to cherish all the time we have with them and to value all that they have given us upon their passing.
God Speed.
