Pauline Delander Obituary

Pauline Delander
July 12, 1924 - September 16, 2020
Sacramento, California - Pauline Delander passed away peacefully on September 16th, 2020 at the age of 96, at home in Sacramento. A native Californian, Pauline was born in San Jose to Sicilian immigrants, Giuseppe and Vincenza Inglima. She spent her childhood on her parents' ranch in Modesto, CA, where they grew grapes and peaches. Pauline was always an excellent student and graduated from U.C. Berkeley in 1946, majoring in mathematics. Her 38 year career as a high school math teacher took her to Madera, Stockton, and San Francisco, where in 1958 she married Paul T. Delander. Paul's work took them to Redding and finally Sacramento. Pauline received a government scholarship to attend summer programs at Stanford University, where she received an MA degree in mathematics education. In retirement, Pauline loved spending time with family and friends, volunteering at church, crocheting, crossword puzzles, and social media. She is preceded in death by her husband, Paul, and her siblings, Joseph, Nathan, and Mary, and daughter-in-law, Kathleen. She is survived by her daughter, Kathryn, daughter-in-law, Ludmila, her stepson, Paul Jr., and grandchildren, Bethany and Nels. She will be remembered for her loving heart and sweet nature by all who knew her. A private memorial service was held at St. George's Episcopal Church on October 24th, 2020. Contributions in Pauline's memory may be made to St. George's Episcopal Church (stgeorgeca.org) or to the Cure Alzheimer's Fund (curealz.org).
