Peter CARRUTH Obituary
CARRUTH, Sr., Peter Warren (USAF MSGT retired) Age 82, passed away Tuesday morning, May 20, 2014 at home with his loving wife by his side. He was born October 16, 1931 in Holtville, CA, to John and Gladys Carruth. He is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Josie, five children-Dianna Carder, Beverly, Steve, Lorraine, and Pete Jr.; 12 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren; his siblings, Mary, Annetia, Wallace, Jim and Paul; and little guard dog, Tulu. He made his career in the US Air Force and is a well-decorated veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was very proud of his military service. After he retired he continued his military support through affiliation with the American Legion and VFW. He had a strong work ethic and through various jobs after the military, he continued to receive awards and recognition. He was extremely generous, lending a helping hand, cooking meals, giving care packages for family, neighbors, coworkers, and the needy. He loved fishing early in his life, then gardening, and later, he discovered the internet, where he continued his self-education on a gamut of topics. He loved all styles of music, and the joy of family gatherings, that always included a speech expressing his pride and gratitude. He was passionate about Lake Tahoe, where he found peace. He knew no stranger. He always had a kind word and would look only for the best in all whom he encountered. The lessons he gave us will be carried on in his memory. He was a legendary man of honor, and his spirit will always live within us. Dad, we will always remember the twinkle in your eyes. There will be an Honor Guard ceremony at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 28th 2014 at Calvary Catholic Cemetery at 7101 Verner Avenue, Sacramento, CA 95841. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.

Grandpa man!! I just put my first big garden beds to winter, thinking of you the whole time. There´s seldom a time I don´t remember you out in the yard having found your peace in the sweet tranquility of cultivation and gardening. I have a big beautiful blended family now and all my kids know your legacy. The know you taught me the true measure of a man is how much he loves and I live by that now! There´s even less days that go by where I don´t think about how much you would have loved having all these kids around that I got now. I see a bit of you in all that I do now and I strive to be more like you every day! I love and miss you grandpa. I had no idea how massive an impact you had on me. You for sure are the man that taught me what it is to be a man and even more importantly, how to be a good human!!! Your legacy will forever live on in all I do!

Hi Dad, I'm reading thru the messages that your loved ones have left for you. First I was smiling and now I'm crying! I miss you so much! I miss this is your papa' on your phone calls, I miss seeing you walk around in the back yard and I really miss our conversations to and from your doctor visits and our little lunches afterwards. After all the years together, I got to know you best the last few years of your life. Mom, Catalina, your new great great granddaughter, Juliette, and I took beautiful flowers to you yesterday. Happy Birthday, in heaven, dad! Mom and Dianna took beautiful roses, mixed flowers and balloons for you today! I had Dianna pick out flowers from me to you! I sure do miss you!! I finished printing out your emails, and I sure had fun reading them, hearing your voice, and laughing at your comments. You are always THE BEST!!!

Hi my daddy-O! Guess what? There is going to be a first great-great grandbaby!! Cerina and Tyler are expecting little Trenton to join the family here in a couple of weeks! Pretty exciting! We are trying to figure out how mom can see the baby. I don't think she would be up for a long road trip, but we never know.
I'll be in CA May 6 for Mother's Day! I can't wait to visit you! Big hugs to you up in the Pearly Gates. I love and miss you so, so much!

Seems it was yesterday that you left us for the beautiful heavens and our Lord above. Yesterday was the first day the sun came out in weeks! Thanks for bringing sunshine and a beautiful moon! It's the day after - two years now since you left us, heading for the Pearly Gates.
I was able to go on a trail ride with Jazz yesterday to Bear Valley in Point Reyes. I was determined to make the ride with you on my mind. And your presence was everywhere! Thank you for those big gusts of wind, and beautiful sky and clouds! Swirling up the dust, blowing through the trees - just as you did at your reception, and when we scattered ashes. It's been almost 2 years since you have left us to go to the pearly gates. I bet it's beautiful up there and that you get to visit with the family!
I'm going out to see mom for mother's day, and it's going to be so hard for me, not having you there for a big bear hug. I'm really not prepared, but I'll be as strong as I can be. I know your spirit will be with me, as you always are. I feel your 'breath of fresh air' now and then, and it makes me smile.

Gramps,
Since the day you left our physical world, I've always wanted to bring my thoughts and feelings into words and it's been difficult. For so long I've wanted to express how much of a positive impact you've had on this beautiful family, and that I see so much of you through so many people.
There are countless wonderful memories with you and I'm glad that Peyton was able to enjoy some with you as well. Remember "snail hunting" late one night with him? That was definitely the only time I've ever said to you that it might be time to come inside because it was getting late and it was too dark! You got a flashlight and continued on with him, and he forever remembers that time and several others with you. Come to find out years later, he actually knew what the "food" was that you guys were feeding the snails! And he knew it was to protect the flowers...
You have opened up so many eyes and minds to the enjoyment of the beauty in this world, so much that simply thinking about you and how you would react in a certain situation brings peace and serenity.
I've always wanted you to know that when I hear the words "Chaddy Baby" these days, it just doesn't feel the same to answer as I used to with you, so I don't. It was always your voice and how you said it that brought the response, something that we shared since I was a little guy.
You are missed so very much, Gramps... There's not a day that goes by for me that you're not a part of, whether in my thoughts or my actions.

Thinking of you on this Memorial weekend Grandpa! I know you see the strong family bonds, the Honor we all carry with us, and the relationships being started with our creator which you now get to party with! Pretty amazing things happening day to day, week by week, colors intensified, handshakes bolder, hugs held a bit longer, phone calls more often...The things you wished for. Miss you Gramps!

What a beautiful one year memorial the family had in your honor! There was a full house. I know you were and still are, shining on us all. Great speeches and wonderful memories. Grandpa you would have been so happy this past weekend. The family pulled together and held a BBQ in your honor the way you lived to do for us. Your memory is forever etched in our minds and during these times most have us have reflected on how we can be better people moving forward using your example as our guide. You raised up people that hold value on the simplicities in life just as you did. The best part of it all is that your presence is always felt in the hardest of times which brings light into darkness. I love you grandpa man!!!

Grandpa,
I love you so much! As the first granddaughter, you always made me feel special. Even though I don't have some silly anecdote about you like all the boys do, what I can say is that I will never forget how you loved me. I don't remember stories you told, or many things specifically that you said other than that I was beautiful like a rose. But how you always made me feel like I mattered, that I was special and beautiful no matter what will always be in my heart. Your tenderness made such an impact on me as a child and I love you and know that you'll always be in my heart.

for teaching me how to hook a worm - about tolerance - how to endure the curve balls life throws at us, to smell the roses, and accept the thorns that come with them;
for being there through the hardest times of my life, your reassuring smile, your generous spirit, about rising to the occasion;
for loving all of us equally, and always looking for the good, for light through the dark.
Thank you for being such a great Father, and staying with us as long as you could. I'll always remember when you were in the hospital, and the docs were discussing possible quadruple bypass surgery, and when they started to show us the images of your heart – your own heart did its own bypass! Wow.

Grandpa, I couldn't tell you enough how important you are to such a wonderful family. As I move on in life there are a few things I will be sure to do. Things I believe you would want all of our family to carry on your legacy. Treat others as you want to be treated, lend a helping hand to neighbors, plant flowers to enjoy the colors of life, and always shake a veterans hand and thank them for their services.
