Peter Lee Obituary

Peter Joshua Lee, age 82, of Murrieta, CA, passed away in his home on November 1, 2025.

Born July 8, 1943, Peter (Pete) was the youngest of three sons born to Chinese immigrant parents in New York City. Pete spent his childhood in Brooklyn and graduated from Boys High School in 1961 before earning his undergraduate degree from Ohio Wesleyan University (OWU). During his time at OWU, Pete was a proud member of the SAE-Ohio Delta Fraternity, the Men's Glee Club, and the Men's Lacrosse Team. He later completed his graduate studies in Education at CSU Sacramento, cementing his commitment to a profession in public education for more than 30 years.

Pete shared 55 years of marriage with his wife, Joette Lee. Many of their fondest memories involved time spent with Joette's extended family in Northern California, summer vacations in South Lake Tahoe and Canada, weekend visits with friends in Southern California, and periodic travel to see friends and family on the east coast. Pete and Joette raised their children in Sacramento, CA before following their grandchildren, first to the Central Coast in 2010, and earlier this year, to Murrieta, CA.

Prior to his stroke in 2023, Pete dedicated years to actively volunteer his time in local soccer and lacrosse communities. Lacrosse was a true passion for Pete. Whether playing the sport with club teams and fellow OWU alumni through his late 70s, coaching at the high school level, assisting with youth clinics and recreational leagues, or teaching lacrosse to middle-schoolers in P.E. classes, Pete loved what he called, "The Creator's Game." In 2023, Pete was honored to be recognized by USA Lacrosse for his "Outstanding Contributions to Youth Lacrosse."

Pete was the proud father of two children and their spouses – his son, Joshua and Wendi Lee, and daughter, Kate Lee and Steve Link. Pete is survived by three grandchildren, Tobey and Raegan Lee, and Jack Link. He is also survived by his older brothers, John Lee of Franklin, TN, and James Lee (Judith) of Sacramento, CA, and sister-in-law, Janice Martinez (Canada). Pete was also blessed to have four nephews, Jean-Pierre and Johnathan Lee (Miriam), Ed and Jerome Norton, and two great nephews, Elliott Lee and Costa Norton.

The family will continue to share in conversation the memory of Pete's life with friends and loved ones through the coming months. In lieu of flowers, donations in Pete's name may be made to 805 Youth Lacrosse Association, 11573 Los Osos Valley Road, Suite B, San Luis Obispo, CA 93405, Attn. Marc Lea or your local hospice.

Pete was a friendly, supportive, and encouraging Lacrosse teammate. I will never forget how welcoming he was to me on the OWU Legends. I am truly saddened, but at the same time feel blessed and grateful to have gotten to know him over the years that I played for the team. Love you, Pete.

Pete was an exceptional man. He displayed many qualities that I aspire to exemplify in my own life, and I will continue to hold him as a role model. I learned a lot from observing him on the lacrosse field and am a better coach and human being for having known him.

For the love of the game.

Pete (and Family)

I was once told by a very good man that if a boy has five male role models in their life, the chance of them succeding increases many fold. I know you were one of those men to my son. I no doubt believe you were that man to hundreds of boys and girls.

Thank you so much for being such a great role model. For being so selfless and spreading your love of the game of lacrosse with our family. More than that though, you taught not only my son, but many kids how to win, how to lose, comradery, sportsmanship and self-improvement through hard work. You did it through humor, example and occasionally tough love ("You better be doing those push-ups Audie!" Haha...). You had the respect of the children, coaches, and parents. Hell...seeing you running around on the field hanging with the youngsters made me want to better myself!!! Truth be told, I got tired just watching you guys! haha

I found an old pic of you educating the kids and the parents....at the time...we didn't know much of anything about lacrosse. It looked more like polo without the horses...:) Through years of practice and a lot of fun times you gave my son (and his dad) one of the ABSOLUTE greatest days of his life. A memory he and his teammates will take with them through their lives. A championship...But more than that...confidence and the knowledge that if you work hard you can succeed...and more importantly...having fun and making friends while doing it.

I know if there's a heaven, you're up there running the lacrosse field with perfect cradling, passing and no doubt slinging that ball into the net.

I hope you knew how much we love and appreciate you Pete.

his obituary does not mention the decades. Pete spent as assistant superintendent of the Sacramento County office of education. He was admired and respected by all those who worked with him.

Pete and Joette were prominent figures in the lives of my parents, Joe and Rose Realmuto. They were truly considered family. I remember them both as being so friendly, loving, and kind. They brought so much happiness to our entire family. I am certain my parents have welcomed Pete with open and loving arms. I am so sorry for your loss, Joette.
