Peter S. DiClementine Obituary

Peter S. DiClementine passed away peacefully on December 30, 2025, surrounded by family, after a two year battle with cancer. He was 72. His family is so proud of the strength and courage he displayed throughout his illness. We also admire him for never losing his unique sense of humor during that time.

Peter was born in Rochester, New York, on September 1, 1953. In 1959, the family moved to Sacramento. Peter graduated from California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo with a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics. He was originally admitted to the Architecture Program, but his interests eventually changed to physics and math. He had a lifelong love of the ocean and enjoyed living in Morro Bay during his college years. After getting his degree, Peter went to work for the State of California. He retired from the California Department of Health Care Services as a Research Program Specialist in 2017. He found his work there interesting and rewarding.

Peter enjoyed working on his cars, doing various woodworking projects, and creatively restoring or fixing items that most other people would have thrown away. His family often stated that if Peter couldn't fix something, then it couldn't be fixed. He loved the game of baseball and was a lifelong Yankees fan. He also maintained a keen interest in keeping up on the latest developments in science and technology as well as in history and politics. His greatest joy, though, was spending time with family, especially around holidays and birthdays. He loved picking out special cards and gifts for family and friends. He became the steward of all our family's holiday decorations, many dating back to our childhood. Every year we all looked forward to his decorating the family Christmas tree, and each year it was more beautiful than the last.

Peter was always there for his sisters, whether they had car problems or needed advice on plumbing or electrical issues. But what his whole family will miss most about him is his tenderness, warmth, compassion, generosity, loyalty, strength, and joyfulness. He loved life and was just always so much fun to be around. It's hard for us to imagine our family and our lives without him.

Peter was predeceased by his parents, Josephine and Peter F. DiClementine. He is survived by his adoring sisters and outstanding brothers-in-law (JoAnn & Paul Severson, Rosemary DiClementine, Jackie DiClementine, Diane & Morris Erickson, and Donna DiClementine) and also by many wonderful cousins and friends. His burial was private. If you wish to do something in Peter's memory, please consider a donation to The Melanoma Research Foundation, 1420 K Street NW, 7th Floor, Washington, DC 20005 (https://www.melanoma.org).

Peter and I worked together at the Dept of Health Care Services in the Medi-Cal Managed Care Program. He was brilliant at data analysis, took his work very seriously and was always willing to help guide other staff, including me as his manager. He had a great sense of humor and always spoke lovingly of his family. My heartfelt condolences to his family for the loss of such a wonderful person.
