Peter TKACHEFF Obituary

TKACHEFF, Peter V.
Born on January 21, 1949, to Vladimir and Anastasia Tkacheff in Shanghai, China. Passed away at home in Rocklin, Calif., at age 61, on May 26, 2010, with his wife Cynthia by his side. Survived by only daughter Alexandra of Elk Grove, Calif., and brothers David Tkacheff of Antelope, Calif., and Mike Tkacheff of San Jose, Calif. Peter's family arrived in San Francisco in 1950 and settled in Bryte, Calif. A devout Christian Baptist, Peter accepted Christ as his Savior at age 14. He excelled in sports, academics and art. He was co-salutatorian for his 1967 class at Washington Union High School and received scholarships to Pomona college, earning a B.A. in Art (1971); attended Swarthmore College, Pa.; and graduated from Columbia Univ., N.Y., with an MFA (1973). He taught college, earned a teaching credential, and for many years taught ESL at Grant USD. He impacted many children's lives by teaching English to Spanish, Russian, and Ukrainian students. In 2009, Twin Rivers USD installed Peter's ''Undersea Wodd'' triptych painting in the new district office lobby. Peter felt his life to be a bridge between many people, communities and generations of Russian and English speakers. At the end of his life he said, ''If I had more time, I would spend it in teaching Russian children to value their culture, traditions, and faith. I found that my faith and the Bible were central in this bridge building.'' Please join family and friends at 11 a.m. on June 3, 2010, at the Russian Church, 828 Solano Street, West Sacramento, followed by burial at Monument Hill in Woodland, Calif.
