Professor Mugo-Gatheru was a professor of mine in the 1990's at CSU, Sac. One of my favorites. I have retold the story of his proposal to his wife to many a young person as an outstanding example of love and commitment!

To this day, I can remember Prof. MUGO-GATHERU's class on African Cultural History with fondness. How his name was given & his demonstration of one of the dances of his upbringing was passed on to my students who enjoyed hearing his story. As long as I'm alive so is my memory of him & my gratitude for his teaching.

Professor Mugo-Gatheru was my professor in the mid 1970s for African Cultural History and opened my eyes to the African peoples and continent. Every history class I taught during my teaching career heard his story as published in his book Child of Two Worlds. I will be forever grateful for his gift of self and academic rigor.

I recall the great stories Prof. Gatheru told when he would come to visit his daughter. He had a lot of life experiences that became all to real when he spoke. He will be missed.

A scholar, a mentor, an adviser, a friend. The procession of such relationship led me to be a scholar in the pattern evinced by Mwalimu Mugo. Thank you for at one time calling a budding scholar a genius, when he most needed it.
