Richard Athey Obituary

ATHEY, Richard Craig
Richard, age 57, of Oakland, CA, passed away suddenly in St. Mary's Hospital in San Francisco on May 18, 2005. A Bay Area native, he was born on March 31, 1948, at Mills Hospital in San Mateo. He is survived by Ruth Allerton of Hayward, CA, his son, James Paul Athey of Sacramento, his mother, Barbara Athey of Carmichael, brothers Jon Athey of Las Vegas and Randall Athey of Temecula, CA, and his sister, Lyndall Athey of Carmichael. Rich graduated from Burlingame High School in 1967, where he played on the Varsity Football Team. His hobbies included off-roading, boating, and many other outdoor activities with his family and friends. He spent his working life in the Bay Area as a technician/foreman on both autos and trucks. He had been retired a little over a year and loved traveling in his motor home and spending weekends on his property in Rackerby, CA. He will be remembered for his out going and unselfish nature, and his incredible sense of humor. Memorial services were hold in Sacramento on June 5 and a service to celebrate his life with friends and family will be held in Burlingame on Saturday, June 25, at 11:00 AM at the Burlingame Rec Center, 850 Burlingame Ave., Burlingame, CA.
