Dr. Richard Feiertag

Dr. Richard Feiertag passed away at the age of 99 1/2 following a heart attack. For many years he practiced Pediatric Medicine in Sacramento, on "I" St downtown. His wife of 57 years, Dorothy, preceded him in death in 2006 from ALS. Richard and Dorothy were active throughout their lives, traveling, hiking, skiing, swimming and raising four adopted children, two of whom followed medical careers as well, one a Registered Nurse and the other a Physicians Assistant. In the 1950's Richard served as Chairman of the California Adoptions Committee, and authored a book about adoptions. He was a longtime member of Town and Country Lutheran Church, helped in founding the grade school there and more recently the Lutheran High School in Sacramento, both pre-deceased him. Richard worked at the Hospital in Ganada, AZ on the Navaho Indian Reservation after his retirement. He had great respect for the Native Americans especially the Navaho, Zuni, and Hopi. Richard was also a fan of Shakespeare attending plays in Ashland, OR. He was a voracious reader, and a gifted artist as well, painting and drawing.He is survived by his four children: Linda, and Gene Wirth, granddaughters Sara, Karen, and Jennifer; Michael Feiertag, grandsons, Tom and Shane; Heide Porter grandchildren Ben and Katie, and great-grandchildren Serena and Mason; and Tom Feiertag his wife Stacy, grandchildren Michael and Mellissa, her husband Phil and great grandson Levi. Celebration of Life Service at Town and Country Lutheran Church, Sept 2, 2018, 1pm. He will be greatly missed.
