Robert McINTYRE Obituary

McINTYRE, Dr. Robert C., MD
'Christopher'
July 1, 1929 - May 3, 2013

The world suffered a great loss with the passing of Robert C. 'Christopher' McIntyre, MD, on May 3, 2013. He was a truly beloved and loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, friend and physician to countless people who are deeply saddened by his sudden passing. We mourn and miss him tremendously. Anyone who knew Christopher knows he was a 'hugger,' but the extension of arms went far beyond the warm embraces he would share when entering and, quite unequivocally, lighting up a room. He guided, supported, mentored and generously provided kindness and love to so many people, in so many ways, throughout his life. His memory will be cherished by all those who were fortunate enough to have been touched by him and benefited from his being a part of their life. Words are not adequate to express our grief but we can all find solace in the knowledge that we have been blessed with whatever time we did get to spend with him and will all be better people as a result of that time. Christopher was born in Los Angeles July 1, 1929 and left us in Los Angeles, May 3, 2013. He was the youngest of four boys born to Benjamin Nichols McIntyre of Everett, Washington and Priscilla Layton McIntyre of Thatcher, Arizona. At the age of 27 he sold his share of the family farm in Roseville to further his education. He graduated from UC Berkeley in 1959, and received his doctorate degree from UC San Francisco in 1962. He began his practice in 'General Medicine and Surgery' in Sacramento and then, in 1983, moved to Twain Harte, CA and continued practicing until his retirement in 2000. Post-retirement he worked for the state of California a few more years before moving to Las Vegas to enjoy warmer weather and to be closer to family in 2009. In his time on the family farm he had built a home and a telephone 'party line', learned electrical skills and many other aspects of a working man's life - skills which became the basis of his empathetic communication with all his patients as their physician. Throughout his life he conquered it all - from land and sea, to the sky from which he looks down on us all now. He learned to become a pilot, loved water skiing, was an excellent snow skier, golfed and jogged - even winning the Twain Harte Family Fun Run twice in his age group. While he did it all, most undeniably, his greatest successes lay in the love and care he had for all of his patients! Christopher was preceded in death by his brothers, Benjamin and Myron McIntyre. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Elyce; his brother, Leslie (Norma) McIntyre of Shingle Springs; his daughters, Janet (Gary) Garland of Sacramento; Lynette (Gordon) Robinson of Provo; Melanie (Tom) Kirk of Las Vegas; Elizabeth Ozkan and Dennis Turner of Las Vegas; Kristine DiGioia of Sacramento; and his son, Robert C. McIntyre II, of Sacramento as well as 17 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 17 nieces and nephews and a multitude of fortunate friends. We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to a long time special friend and a part of our family, CDR Warren 'Crash' Gilbert-Ret. MD, for his aid in extending the timeline that gave the family the ability to say our goodbye's to our beloved Christopher. Our dearest Christopher, we will try to emulate you as we go on with our lives, which have been so enriched by all that you have given to us. His Life Celebration will be held in Sacramento, August 17 and in Twain Harte, September 14.
We love you Christopher! We love you Dr. McIntyre!

I worked for Dr McIntyre in 1979 as his office nurse. He was the best employer, doctor, and mentor. Very fond memories of him.

Oh, Dr. Mac and family, you were angels sent from heaven with huge wings that opened up wide and tucked my mom and us girls right in to love and safety. If it hadn't been for you, I don't know what would have become of us. I was 4 years old, and sweet Miriam took care of me till I started Kindergarten. I remember the sweet smells that came from the kitchen, playing with Bobby and the kindness from all. Thank you as we will always remember your Dad and Dory, his nurse, that made it possible for my mom to learn to be a nurse so she could be a sole provider for her four children. You were also her best friends. Thank you Chris and family for being who you are and for the way you love. We will never forget your family.

Janet, Lynette, Melanie, Liz, Kris and Bobby, my heart goes out to each of you and your families. Your Mom and Dad took 4 kids and my Mom into your home (1965) and treated us like we were family. I will always treasure the many memories. He gave my Mom, Marianne a job as a nurse in his young practice that subsequently supported our family as we grew to be adults. I will always be grateful to him for that gift. I love each and every one of you and my prayers are with you during this time as you grieve the loss of your Daddy.

Dad had the most gentle bedside manner I ever witnessed. It has and continues to affect the way I help people with their sensitive issues of life. He leaves a big hole for many who were touched by his kindness and compassion. Hugs to you, Elyce, as I know what it is like to live with the massive loss of the one you love most. I carry you in my heart and in my prayers.

A true farmers son, you could fix anything. I will always remember our trips to the hardware store. Especially to fix my pedal car that kept getting ran over. Every time I go to unclog a pipe, tighten a lock, or use a "locomotion wrench" on a stubborn bolt, I know you will be there looking over my shoulder. I love you and miss you.

Dear Elyce:
Always a smile and a pleasant greeting. The only Doctor I have ever enjoyed going to. My best to you and the entire family.

A life well lived that touched so many in a positive way. The humor, intelligence, insight and kindness had a major impact on those of us who were lucky to have Dr. Mac as our doctor and privileged to enjoy the warmth of his spirit.

Elyce,

What a lovely story for Chris. His hugs were priceless. And light up the room and campground, he did. Always busy and smiling and kind. We will miss him so much. Looking forward to Twain Harte and Sept. 14th.

Love, Roxie

Dear Elyce not sure if you remember me but you and Dr. Mac have always held a very special place in my heart. I had my very first job as an LVN in Dr. Mac's office at the Del Paso clinic. He was such a wonderful doctor and person to work for. I will never forget his kindness and sense of humor. I learned a lot from him. I am saddened about his passing and I send my condolences.
