Robert Robertson Obituary

Robert Edward Robertson died peacefully at Carlton Senior Living in Davis on June 17, 2017. He was 87. Born on Feb. 12, 1930 in the small Midwest town of Monmouth, Ill., he lettered in football, basketball and track - and married his high school sweetheart Patricia Simonson in 1949. They were married until Pat's death on Jan. 13, 2017, a total of 67 years. The couple moved to Oklahoma City immediately after the wedding because Bob was in the military and stationed at Tinker Air Force Base. He completed service as a tech sergeant and studied accounting and business administration at the University of Oklahoma under the G.I. Bill. Bob took a job in the accounting department at Kaiser Aluminum after college and the couple moved to Baton Rouge, LA. He transferred to Oakland in 1959 and rose to the level of division controller. In 1986, Bob was one of the principals in an employee stock option buy out of the refractories division at Kaiser. He completed his career as second in command at the new company, National Refractories & Minerals Corp. The couple moved to Sun City Roseville in 1996 after many years in Walnut Creek. Bob was the second president of the Sun City Roseville Homeowners Association. He is survived by three children: David Robertson (Kathy) of Davis, CA; Stephen Robertson (Gloria) of Weiser, ID, and Anne Scher (Seth) of Moraga, CA. He is also survived by brother Gary Robertson (Karen) of Monmouth, Il, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The family remembers him as a thoughtful, gentle man who was very involved in the lives and activities of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. An avid Giants fan, he enjoyed golf, had high standards and a strong work ethic. He liked bargains, dancing and travel, but had difficulty adjusting to life after the loss of his longtime spouse. A private family service will be held when his ashes are interred at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent in his name to The First Tee at thefirsttee.org or the American Heart Association at heart.org
