Robert Salentine Obituary

Bob passed away peacefully in Roseville at the age of 84 on January 2, 2015 after a long illness. Born in Portland, Ore. to Emma and Joseph Salentine he moved with his family to Oakland, CA when he was 3 years old. Soon, they moved to San Leandro where he attended St. Mary's Elementary School and St. Joseph's High School, after which he enlisted in the Army, studied engineering, and was honorably discharged in 1952. He soon went to work for Cal Trans where he worked for 20 years serving in many engineering capacities and ending his career as a districts safety engineer where he helped develop CAL OSHA. In 1972 he left State service and started his own business in Oakland and, ultimately partnered with his cousin Ed Schatzman who, in 1982, bought the business. He ended his career in his most-loved job working for a marketing group utilizing his exceptional creativity and interpersonal skills. He married Terry, the love of his life, in 1980 and happily enjoyed their blended families. They retired in 2000 to Sun City Roseville where they established many good friends and enjoyed happy times. Bob became an avid golfer and cherished his monthly poker dates with his friends. He is survived by his wife, Terry, children Karen, Steve, and Sharon Salentine, step-children Kerry Grady (Mike), and Ken Robinson, sister Shirley Hale, brother-in-law, Len Boiteux, daughter-in-law, Tere Salentine, grand-children Adam, Nathan, Joseph, Shania, and great-grandson Garrett Salentine. Bob was well known as having a keen sense of humor, a master of story-telling, a writer of many family and friend "toasts," a kind heart, and a devoted Christian. His kind, pleasant ways will be missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers or gifts, please make any remembrances to the American Lung Association. For some reason Bob was on my mind today and I 'googled' his name and found his obituary. My heart is full of sadness. Bob Salentine was one of the greatest men I have ever known or will ever know...his obit mentioned his family and accomplishments..yes, he had many. Bob could have done anything he ever wanted...actor, writer, singer, inventor, comedian...anything. He helped me in so many ways it's impossible to put into words. He loved his family..he loved his work...he loved his life, and he loved his LORD. He put up with me...no easy task. I loved Bob Salentine...God Bless and keep him...dream with the angels my friend. Reading Bob's obituary brought back so many happy memories of times spent with him. His wonderful smile, stories, and recipe for cocktail onions will always be remembered. Art died in March--so sad to think of both of them gone. Best wishes to you, Terry!
