Robert WEISHAR Obituary

WEISHAR, Robert 'Bob' William

Bob passed away Jan. 30th, 2014 in Placerville. He was born May 25, 1926 to John Albert Weishar and Pearl Lue Wilson Weishar in Visalia, CA. The family moved to Bakersfield a short time later and then to San Luis Obispo, CA in 1934 when his father opened Weishar's City Pharmacy. Bob was second generation German on his father's side and second generation Irish on his mother's side, and he was a native Californian. Bob graduated early from high school in April 1944 and joined the Navy in San Francisco. Boot camp was 3 weeks in San Diego, CA. After boot camp he was sent to Kansas City, Kansas to the University of Kansas for 4 months training. With the rank of Fireman 1st class he went to join his ship, the Appalachian in the Admiralty Islands. From there he went to the Leyte invasion then on to the Lingayen Gulf invasion. He later took part in the invasion of Japan. Admiral Coney inspected the US Navy facilities while there, and Bob saw MacArthur go ashore there, as well.
In 1946 Bob came home, met his future wife June, and started college at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, CA. Bob and June were married in June 1948. They celebrated their 65th anniversary in June 2013. Bob graduated from college in 1949. A daughter, Julia Lynn was born in 1950 and a son, Robert Errett was born in 1951.
On graduating from Cal Poly he went to work for Pacific Telephone, which eventually took the family to San Francisco, and then on to Sacramento where Bob worked as an Engineer. Bob and June both retired from Pacific Telephone in 1985. They lived in Carmichael for more than 30 years. In 1991 they moved to Cameron Park and were in walking distance to the airport where he kept his cherished Cessna 177 airplane.
Bob and June enjoyed many years of doing things together. They volunteered as Scout leaders, Church youth leaders, 20 years with Sacramento Sheriff's Sharp program, 20+ years with the Sacra- mento Jazz Jubilee; he was a ham radio operator and flew with Angel Flight. Later he joined the Search & Rescue Air Squadron in Placerville. They especially enjoyed cruising all over the world and the many years of flying with Sacramento Valley Pilots Association on their various outings around the U.S., Mexico and Canada. Bob is survived by his wife June; daughter Julia Lynn Weishar Heathco and her husband Merle; son Robert Errett Weishar; granddaughter Ruth Ann Ewan (Heathco) and her children Ambrie, Hunter, Brandon and Elizabeth; grandsons Merle Solomon and Job Robert Heathco, grandsons Neil and Michael Young (Weishar); niece Kathi Falcon and her husband Lorenzo; nephew Jeff DeBrish and his wife Orlene and their family; niece Amanda and husband Chris Van Huss and children Bailey, Connor and Alexis; and niece Andrea De Brish. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister and brother-in-law Vivian and Marcel De Brish and their daughter Sylvia De Brish.
