You made me laugh every single day in our 4th period class throughout our senior year...I can still remember our laughter and silliness with the rest of the class.
Although our ’96 graduation was the last day I saw and talked to you, I knew that you’ll do great in life…just because you were that “Rolly Soliven” that was always upbeat and positive.
I still have my year book from Valley HS (Class of ‘96), and I’ll keep in mind what you wrote in it.
Rolly, I’m really sorry about my late note to you—I did not know.

Paul and I went to Hana Tsubaki last night specifically to see Rolly - our favorite sushi chef. Imagine our shock to hear the news. I started crying right there at the sushi bar and just couldn't stop. The world was a much better place with him in it and I cannot even begin to say how sorry I am and how much a spirit like Rolly will be missed.

Rolly,
I'll always remember your wild & crazy ways, and the caring heart that came with it. You're the type of person we all strive to be.
I'll never forget the bon fires and your crazy butt swinging from the tree jumping into the river at 1 in the morning... always the dare devil!
We all miss your presence...

Mrs. Soliven and family,
My deepest sympathy to you at this very unfortunate and sad moment in time. I learned of dear Rolly's passing from my son Alex and couldn't believe Rolly had been taken from this earth. He touched so many people, you have no idea and he made us "old ladies" feel so special when he prepared sushi for us at Taka's-Please know my prayers and thoughts are with you Mrs. Soliven and your family. Rolly,
This pain is almost unbearable. You had such a major impact on my life in the very short amount of time you were in it. My friends and family who have only met you once or twice cried when they heard the news of your passing...you left impressionable footprints in their lives as well. I feel like if it wasn't for you, I would totally be hating Sacramento right now. You took me out and showed me a great time when this little girl was new in town. Thanks for always going out of your way to make others feel comfortable. Joann and I were laughing when we thought about that one time we were all eating pizza and drinking hef on my roof and I accidentally locked us all out, so you had to climb down a tree and break into my house =) Good times....there was never a dull moment with you around...I'll miss you and love you forever.

My two sons, Brian and Daryl Kim, were fortunate to have Rollie and his family as our neighbors for nearly 20 years. Oh, the memories I have of Rollie growing up! He was always into something - inline skating and street hockey as a kid to his "Redline Racing" a few years later. No matter what he was doing, he was always the best at it! When Brian first told me that Rollie was a sushi chef, I laughed!! Rollie making sushi!?!?!?!? This I had to see! I was so impressed with his skills, I quickly became addicted to his flaming salmon. This was during the time that I was going through a divorce, and Friday nights were the most difficult (it seemed the whole world was out having fun and I got left behind). I would go see Rollie on those lonely nights and as soon as I walked into the sushi room, he always greeted me with his huge smile and would give me his knuckle knock. What was he thinking giving an old woman a knuckle knock! But that was Rollie, and he knew that I secretly loved it! He always made you feel special and a part of his world. His side of the sushi bar was always full of his admiring guests, but somehow he always found room to add one more. He would get a chair for me and then introduce me to everyone at the bar - there were never any strangers in Rollie's world! And that's the last image I have of Rollie - as master of his sushi domain surrounded by his adoring friends. I moved to Alabama shortly thereafter and have not had any decent sushi since! Guess I'll have to wait for that flaming salmon until we meet again.
Rolly - Thank you for being such a good friend to my sons Brian and Daryl. I am forever indebted to you for being like a brother to them during their difficult times, and for infusing them with your positive attitude and love for life. And I too, will forever be touched by your unselfish love and friendship.
To Rolly's family - Even though Daryl and I are in Alabama, we are there with you in spirit. Our love and prayers go out to you during this difficult time. And thank you for posting Rollie's picture here - it was so wonderful to see his huge smile again after three years...........

I remember when i first met Rolly... i thought he was sooo cute with his ear to ear smile... We were at REC and as those of you who have gone know there are happy times and other times when you can't stop crying... i remember it was a crying time when Rolly came over and huged me... and told me that everything would be okay and that the trick isn't to get over stuff it's to smile through the tears and that will make it alright. Those words have helped me in my life soo much. Rolly will be forever missed and loved. My prayers, thoughts, and love goes out to Rolly's mom, to Ed, Allen, and Colene. I believe that angels were special people that walked the earth touching people with their kindness... God only calls them home when thier wings are ready for them... Rolly's wings were ready.
We'll meet again.

Rolly,
Man,When I first heard you were gone it hit all of us really hard. We will remember your smile and your humor. I remember when I first met you it was during our dancing days with the whole KEROPPI/DNK/NUUD thing and my KHAOS days. As time progressed it was all about racing. We were all so dedicated and competitive at the same time but still had a good relatsionship through it all. Right now we will celebrate your life and smile when we think about you. We all love you and you will be missed.
From all of your ZERO GRAVITY / KHAOS CREW brothers and sisters.

I have known Rolly since we were kids but my last fond memories of Rolly were last year when we ran into each other a few times while I was on my work-break. He would be coming from Taiko Sushi where he just had lunch and was hanging out with his friends that worked there. I would be sitting in front of a coffee shop relieving stress and just clearing my mind during my break. I’d see Rolly coming down K Street and his famous line was “Don’t you ever work...every time I’m out this way you’re out here kickin it”! He’d stop, BS w/ me for a little while and just make me laugh because he was always joking around. He’d put a smile on my face and most of the time that’s what I needed at that very moment. That’s how I remember Rolly...A jokester, fun, energetic, and loving friend and that’s how I will always remember him. He will truly be missed! My thoughts, prayers, and deepest condolences are with his family…Auntie Marilyn, Ed, Allan, and Colleen…during this difficult time.
With Love and many Blessings,

My deepest sympathies truly go out to the family that lost such a wonderful person… Someone that was truly put on this earth to better the lives of others… There is no way you could have been in the presence of Rolly and not cracked a smile, who am I kidding cracking a smile is what you did when you saw him, after being with him for over 2 minutes you presided into gut busting laughter… “NO WORRIES” That is how I will remember you… Well that South Park, Sushi and the “Isha Roll” I thank you for always being kind to my sister, and I am so happy that I had the chance to know you and spend time and share smile with you, my life will forever be change by the guy who never met a stranger

Rolly,
Regardless of where one lives on this planet, there are a few things that make home "home"...a place that you think about when you travel and can't wait to get back to. Having said that, I love walking into the restaurant to be greeted by you and James with your big smile, to catch up with you on lifes adventures, to watch your command of your space there and the way in which you worked so in tune w/ James. When Gary and I travel, we always compare the food to yours (you ALWAYS won) but most importantly, whenever anything really exciting has happened in life over the last couple of years I've thought..."I need to tell Rolly". Tonight was no different in that I was coming to see you to show you my engagement ring. James met me with very, very sad eyes and the horrible news. I miss you already. I will always go back to remember you and I thank you for your friendship and making my home and neighborhood a special place.

Rolly -
I always looked forward to functions at Reuben's or your brother Ed's house because seeing you was a pleasure and always good times. The last party was Rub's daughter's birthday and Allan and I were disappointed because you left right before we arrived. I will never forget your playful goofiness and positive energy. You are special and will be missed by many. You are in God's Kingdom now. Rest in peace my friend. To the Soliven family my deepest condolences. I lost two of the closest family members in my life, one recently so I know what you are going through. Just remember Rolly is in good hands and ones life is just a small blip on the timeline. We will all be reunited one day. Take care.

Rolly was a great friend of mine. His jokes, laughters, and definately his hugs. Like Joanne said the slap on the back and the loud conversations we had seems so crazy of him but that's what makes him "Rolly." I can't thank him enough for being there for me on a day that I didn't even expect him to... He did it out of compassion and because of that he defined the meaning of friendship. I will truly miss him. To the family, I express my heartfelt condolences and with affection and sympathy I hope your fond memories of Rolly give you comfort. My prayers are with you all... Take care and God Bless. Love, Ellen Daclan and kids

Kuya Ro,
You have always been a big bro to me in high school. I remember all the jokes we played on each other. I still laugh about them. I even remember the time you got me with flour cause we where throwing eggs at each other. All of this in high school at Valley. Now Derick and I are married and have four kids. I felt like a family member died cause we where all like family when we where in school. My heart goes out to you and I know you will be watching over all of us. That my memories of us hanging out is still with me now. Now I live by never limiting my self cause it only limits the fun in life. Rest in peace Kuya we will miss you. Love you Kuya Ro.

The Young family sends our deepest condolences. We know what it is like to loose a brother or for my mom a son too soon. No one knows what tomorrow will bring just be strong and put your trust in god.
Here are a few poems that helped me get through at times. I am sure Jeremy is there waiting to help him out.
***Memories of the Heart***
Feel no guilt in laughter, He knows how much you care.
Feel no sorrow in a smile That he's not here to share.
You cannot grieve forever, He would not want you to.
He'd hope that you would carry on The way you always do.
So talk about the good times And the ways you showed you cared.
The days you spent together, All the happiness you shared.
Let the memories surround you,
A word someone may say Will suddenly recapture A time, an hour, a day.
That brings him back as clearly As though he were still here,
And fills you with the feelings That he is always near.
For if you keep those memories You will never be apart
And he will live forever Locked safe within your heart.
****DO not cry for Me***
There's a very special place
Away from all this fear.
No discomfort or disgrace
Will ever reach you here.
Where all walk hand in hand
In the Lord's eternal love,
No vision can be more grand
Than this heaven up above.
So do not cry for me,
For my spirit now will soar,
Until joined in eternity
We'll be the friends we were before.

To the Soliven Family:
We send you our condololences as our heart goes out to you. Loosing a loved one is difficult as we lost our mother recently too. May God give you the strength and faith in him to get through this difficult time. Let us know us if there's anything we can do to help.
Rollie, to the guy that always put a smile on my face and made me laugh no matter what. I sure am going to miss those painful hugs of yours (tapping my back so hard and you know I'm not the biggest person). You used to forever tease me and El why we are always together or if we show up anywhere without each other. LOL. You will truly be missed. I love you my "Rec Brother!"

You'll be missed, Rolly. CoCo and Allan, whenever we spent time together as a group, I've always been in awe of how much love there is among the Soliven siblings, and touched by the certainty of that love. It's a beautiful thing for Rolly to have been able to take with him.
Lots more love to you, Marilyn, Ed, and the rest of your family.

Rolly,
If there was anyone I know that lived life to the fullest it was you. You always did it big wherever and whenever. And no matter what the occasion, you always made time for your friends. That is why you were a part of and touched so many people’s lives.
It was just the other day we were laughing at older folks; talking about someday people are going to be laughing at us. You said, “You know you’re old when you start tucking in your shirts with every outfit.” I wish you made it long enough to see each other with tucked in shirts. I know you’ll be looking down laughing at all of us.
You’ll always be missed and forever remembered. We all love you and miss you.

Rolly, we miss you! This is by far the hardest thing I have ever had to write. How can I express how much you mean to our family? We love you with all our hearts. Our lives will never be quite the same without you. You have given us so many wonderful memories and although you might not be here with us physically - know that you live in us and we promise to never forget. We will tell the stories and memories to the kids because there is no other "Uncle Rolly" quite like you. I won't say goodbye because I know one day we'll see you again. Mahal ka maming lahat! Tunay mong kaibigan hangang magkailan paman!
