Ronnie Wakefield Obituary

WAKEFIELD, Ronnie
Harness Racing Horse owner Ronnie Wakefield passed away on April 24 from Leukemia. Ronnie was 72. Ronnie was born on April 10, 1935 and was the beloved son of the late Rich and Irene Wakefield. He graduated from C.K. McClatchy High School in 1953, where he excelled as a pitcher on the baseball team. During the same year, at the age of 17, he married his next-door neighbor and sweetheart, Peggy Lynch, who was also 17. At the age of 15 Ronnie started working for the Ralph C. Robinson Wire Twister Pliers Company. He would eventually become owner of the company, until his retirement in 1996. A man of many hobbies, Ronnie enjoyed the outdoors, bowling, baseball (huge Dodger fan), playing softball, golf, raising dog show quality St. Bernards, and most recently owning harness racing horses. He was the proud owner of Rhianna Seelster, Julia Julia, Casimere Dow Jones and his pet horse he called Hot Rod. Ronnie's big red truck with "Rondo Racing Stables" in the rear window was a fixture at the track at Cal Expo. Ronnie often said that the color red was for winners. There was no other color for him. Ronnie had an infectious sense of humor, an amazing laugh and unmeasurable strength. Political correctness was an afterthought. Honesty and integrity were not. He leaves behind his loving wife Peggy of 54 years, daughter and son-in-law Lori and Mike Wheeler, son and daughter-in-law Greg and Jackie Wakefield, grandchildren Joshua Wheeler, preceded in death Jessica Wheeler, Kyle Wakefield, Stacy Gustafson and great grandchildren Shayna and Melana Wakefield. Friends are welcomed for visitation on Monday, April 30th from 10:00am to 8:00pm and a memorial service to honor Ronnie's life on Tuesday, May 1st at 10:00am at Andrews and Greilich Mortuary at 3939 Fruitridge Rd. followed by internment at St. Mary's Cemetery.

Dear Peggy, I was a friend of Ronnie's many years ago. My parents were great friends of Irene and Wakie, Cap and Jennie Berry. My cousin called to say that he had died. I have been married for 46 years and know that you have a great loss. I am glad that he did so well.
My sincere sympathy to you. I remember many years ago of accidentlly hitting him in the face with a bat as he was standing behind me as little kids playing ball. I think he had to have stitches. Sincerely , Louise Berry Keck
