Roseanne de Vlaming Obituary

After a long struggle with cancer, Roseanne passed away August 10, 2016. She received wonderful Hospice care in her home for 10 months and passed away with her husband Victor and son Darin at her side. Many friends contributed to her care during these months. Noted for strength of character, kindness, positive outlook, supportive nature and graceful presence, she deeply touched the lives of many. Born in Greenville, TX on May 22, 1946, Roseanne was the hearing daughter of deaf parents. Along with a deaf older brother Gene, the family lived in Dallas during Roseanne's school years. Roseanne completed a BS degree at the University of Texas, Austin and a master's degree in marine botany at UT Marine Science Institute. It was at UTMSI that Roseanne met Victor de Vlaming. Roseanne and Victor were married on May 5, 1973 and lived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin until 1980. Son Darin was born on April 1, 1976. Roseanne began her career as a sign language interpreter in Milwaukee. Upon arrival in Sacramento, Roseanne continued her career as a sign language interpreter. Eventually she opened her own sign language interpreting business which served the deaf community for 15 years. Her business specialized in medical interpreting. She also taught sign language at local colleges. After retiring Roseanne became closely involved with Sacramento Insight Meditation and an energy healing group. A grand joy in her last months was grandson Brady, born March 23, 2015. A celebration of life memorial service is being planned for our dear Roseanne in late September here in Sacramento. For more information contact Victor at 916-718-8290.

Oh, dear Vic! I passed over the email from the McCaffrey Family and just now opened it. Oh I am so dismayed. I have been such a wretched communicator that I had no idea of the severity of her cancer. My love for her and you and your family is enormous and my heart breaks at this saddest of news. I am so grateful though that we were about to renew our precious friendship not that long ago, and that she was able to embrace and enjoy her most adored son and his family.
With all my love and deepest condolences,
Suzanna Reeder

Victor,

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and Darin. I am grateful for the intercession of the Savior, to provide us with the knowledge that we will see loved ones again.

My sincere condolences to your family. May God "who comforts us in all our trials" (2 Cor 1:4) comfort you and your family at such a difficult time. I know God will help you to endure because he cares for you (1Peter 5 :7).

I had the pleasure of knowing and working with Roseanne for many, many years. She provided ASL interpreting services for so many PRIDE employees and her kindness and positive spirit never went unnoticed. Her years of service and dedication to the deaf community was invaluable and she will always be remembered and loved.
To Roseanne's family, I wish peace and healing to all of you during such a difficult time. Please know she has touched so many lives and left footprints on our hearts.

With caring thoughts, Amanda

It was our privilege to know and love Roseanne, and we enjoyed 25 years with her and Victor as friends and neighbors. I will miss seeing her graceful stride through our neighborhood, and I still look for the light in her office window where she worked many hours. Peace to Vic and Darin.
