Rosina Ruano Obituary

Rosina Martinelli Ruano passed away peacefully on August 17, 2017 at home surrounded by her family and love. Rosina leaves behind her husband of 44 years, Rafael Ruano, and four proud children, son Rafael Ruano, Jr., his wife Rachel Scott Ruano and their boys, Rafael, Lucas, Nicolas, and Andres; son Martin Ruano, his wife Sarah Schaller Ruano, and their son, Diego, and daughter, Sofia; daughter Veronica Ruano Gruen, her husband David Gruen; and daughter Gabriela Ruano. Rosina was born November 29, 1951 in Montevideo, Uruguay, the fourth child of Horacio Martinelli and Maruca Buxareo Martinelli. Rosina is survived by her older sister Perla Martinelli Martino and older brother Horacio Martinelli, and their families and joins her parents and sister Mercedes Martinelli in heaven. Rosina and Rafael came to California in 1984 and built a life for their family in Sacramento since 1988. For over 25 years, Rosina worked at Howe Avenue School as a Spanish bilingual assistant, becoming the de facto face of the school for thousands of families and aiding countless families and children. Rosina's wish was that her family and friends would honor her legacy by making a donation to Howe Avenue School for the creation of a garden and a scholarship in her memory. I just found out of Rosina's passing, and I can't believe it. I'm here in my car crying, I can't believe she's gone. She was always there to help in whatever you needed. That's was what I was about to do, ask her for her advice. She was so wise and kind. I respect her and loved her, she was one of the greatest persons that have ever crossed my path. She will forever be remembered, she will be a legend at Howe elementary and the San Juan school district. It was a pleasure to have have met her and to have worked with her.

During the last two years, Rosina was my Spanish language tutor. We met almost once per week during the school year at the Campus Commons clubhouse to read from Spanish books, translate documents for my research, review grammar and have conversations in Spanish. I was looking forward to continuing the lessons this coming year, but I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to know Rosina, to learn from her, and to experience her bright and wonderful personality. I will always be inspired by Rosina - my deepest condolences to her family.

Such an amazing woman. I feel honored to have spent time in the Ruano home growing up; getting hugs as well as passionate words of wisdom from Rosina. My deepest condolences to the Ruano and Martinelli families. Rosina will be missed. I met her at our parent liaison meetings when I use to work at Greer Elementary school. She has a very friendly personality and great smile. I learned a lot from her and became friends. Her laughter and great stories were awesome. Rest in Peace Rosina. Sending prayers.

What I think of the most when I think of Rosina is her genuine love and interest in the children she worked with - she cared deeply and knew her efforts were felt. The other part that I remember of Rosina is her laugh. Her laugh came out of her soul and created oonnections with so many people. She was proud of her work. She was proud of her kids. Nicely done, Rosina!
