Elmer H. Jose Jr.

Elmer H. Jose Jr, 89 CARLSBAD - Elmer H. Jose Jr, USAF ( Ret) passed away on Saturday, October 6, 2007. He was born on September 11, 1918 in Indianapolis, IN. He attended Butler University Elmer served 24 years in the USAF and retired with the rank of Colonel. He served during the Korean War and WWII. He was a White House Aide under Presidents Truman and Eisenhower. He was a B-17 Pilot and he received the following commendations: DFC (Distinguished Flying Cross), Air Medal, Victory Medal WWII and was awarded the Silver Star for an unusually difficult mission completed during Rommel's Drive. He also served several years as a planning commissioner for the City of Carlsbad during the late 1960's and early 1970's. He enjoyed acting and while living in Santa Monica CA was a member of the Santa Monica Theatre. He loved to play golf, and often marshalled at PGA Tournaments held at La Costa. He had an outgoing personality. He was a member of the 7th Bombardment Group Historical Foundation. Elmer is survived by his daughter, Kathleen J. Simpkins of Carlsbad; son-in-law, Donald Simpkins of Carlsbad; sister, Kay Mclaughlin of Middleton, Idaho. Viewing will be held at 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., on Sunday, October 14, 2007 at Eternal Hills Memorial Park, Oceanside.
