Ruth Dangerfield Obituary

DANGERFIELD, Ruth Joanne
R. Joanne Dangerfield, 70, of Citrus Heights, devoted mother, grandmother and friend, passed away, surrounded by family, on March 2, 2006. A Sacramento area resident for 50 years, Joanne was born November 12, 1935, at West Plains, Missouri to Dwight K. and Ruth D. Bruner. Her father's career as a civil engineer relocated the family to several destinations over the years before settling in the Marin County. She attended San Rafael High School, where she was active in social and academic clubs, graduating with honors in 1953. Joanne attended Stanford University and CSU Sacramento where in 1960 she received her bachelor's degree in psychology and Master's degree in education in 1974 while working full time and raising her two children. Joanne enjoyed a successful and fulfilling 30-year career at American River College in Sacramento. As Coordinator of Student Employment and Graduate Placement, she counseled, inspired and motivated many to realize their full potential. She knew how to enjoy life; keeping busy with world travel, dancing and spending time with family, her two grandsons, Ryan and Garrett, extended family and the legions of friends she cherished. She is survived by her loving companion and soulmate of 18 years, Douglas Kinney; two sons, Ronald and Todd Dangerfield; and two brothers, Fred Bruner and H.D. Bruner and many loving family members. A celebration of her life with family and friends will be held locally in late Spring followed by both a private graveside service in Fort Collins, Colorado. In lieu of flowers, it was Joanne's wish that memorial contributions be sent payable to the American River College Foundation, 4700 College Oak Drive, Sacramento, 95841 (916) 484-8174, for the establishment of an educational scholarship in her name.

Joanne Dangerfield embodied the unusual combination of a delicate appearance and an iron will. Humor and as infectious smile wrapped the package. I will miss her.

Joanne was one of the brightest, most astute people I have ever known. She was the person to ask if you needed information; she never failed a friend, and she was always discreet. In addition, she had a great zest for life and was appreciative of a good story. We will all miss her laugh, her empathy, her kindness, her warmth. We were friends for over forty years; I will always love and remember Joanne.
