TORREZ, Serbando ''Sam''
Sam, a World War II veteran who served on the U.S.S. Makin Island, passed away on Friday June 1, 2007, in Sacramento, Calif. He was the beloved husband to Amelia Navarro Torrez for 54 years. He was the loving father to Mary Helen Celio, Dora Gonzales, Lydia and Sam Gomez, Laura Chavez, Linda Maldonado, Lisa and Tommy Sandoval, Nancy and Joe Del Valle, Elizabeth and Jim Wilbur, and Joseph and Yvonne Torrez. He will be greatly missed by his 28 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 7, from 12:00-6:00 PM at Andrews and Greilich at 3939 Fruitridge Road in Sacramento, CA 95820. Following the visitation, there will be a Rosary and tribute to the life of Sam Torrez. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 8, at 10:00 AM at Saint Rose's Catholic Church, 5961 Franklin Blvd., Sacramento, CA 95823. Preceding the service, interment will be at Camellia Memorial Lawn, 101075 Jackson Road Sacramento, CA 95827.

Dearest Lisa & Torrez Family,
Your father was a beautiful man. We're gonna miss his famous tamales. He reminded me so much of my beloved father. I will always remember him for joining us on our camping trips at Smud. He always came for the day to go fishing. We would be so excited to see him drive up. He will be missed by so many. May the Lord comfort you all during this very difficult time in your life.

I am very sorry to hear about Uncle Sammy's death, I first met him when Elise was at school at St. Patrick School where I worked for a number of years and then later when I became friends with Judy Elias and her family. He will be greatly missed.
