Stanley Olson Obituary

Stanley E. Olson, 87, died in Sacramento California on July 2, 2014. Born September 4, 1926, in Omaha NE to Gilbert and Hedwig Olson. He met his wife, Mary Lou, in 1943 in Phoenix AZ where they were married July 7, 1949. He is survived by his wife, four daughters, sons-in-law, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his three brothers and one sister. Stanley was ordained into the ministry of the United Lutheran Church of America in 1952. He served parishes in Yuma, Van Nuys and Santa Barbara. He also served on staff 12 years under three bishops of the Pacific Southwest Synod of the Lutheran Church in America. In 1979 he was elected Bishop of the Pacific Southwest Synod and served as bishop until 1988 when three Lutheran bodies merged to form the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. He retired in 1990. Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday July 19th at St. John's Lutheran Church in Sacramento. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Sacramento; Reconciling Works; or the ELCA Foundation. Special thanks are extended for the loving care he received in his final years from the memory care staff of the Carlton Plaza, Sacramento
