Stephen Madler Obituary

Stephen Madler
July 4, 1957 - August 6, 2022
Folsom, California - Stephen Madler lost his battle with cancer on August 6, 2022, in Folsom, California; he was 65 years old. He passed away in the comfort of his home with Julie, his wife of 39 years, and his eldest daughter Michelle at his side. His youngest daughter Sarah, and granddaughter Kira, visited prior to his passing; along with his youngest brother Orville, wife Terrie, and their two daughters, Savannah and Vanessa. He is also survived by his brother Gerald and sister Cheryle.
Steve was born in Lewiston, Idaho, and raised in Baker, Montana. After graduating from Baker High, he served in the Army and was stationed in Bamberg, Germany. After serving in the military, he attended the University of Montana where he met his wife. They moved to Campbell, California where they were married in 1983. He loved computers and his first job was working for Teleforce (1981-1991) as their Operations Manager, where he wrote programs and handled their computer systems. He then graduated from the University of San Francisco with a BS in Information Systems Management and worked for Windham Hill Records as their Director of Information Systems from 1991-1996. At Deloitte & Touche LLP (1996-2004) he became a Senior Manager, and worked on many consulting jobs. He was also employed by the City of Rocklin as their Information Technology Manager (2005-2012), and at SDI/NexLevel as an Information Technology Managing Consultant (2013-2020). Prior to his passing, he worked as an Information Technology Supervisor for the State of California's Dept of Child Support Services where he retired in May 2022.
Steve enjoyed a variety of hobbies, but his favorites included reading, music, cooking, movies, and following various blogs. He loved challenging himself and never shied away from DIY projects. His ability to consume knowledge seemed endless, whether he was looking to build a waterfall and pond or shingle a roof; he mastered the job. The admiration of Steve's family, friends, and loved ones were highlighted by the outpouring of support upon his passing. He will be sorely missed.
Steve's memorial was held on July 10, 2023, at St. Mary's Cemetery, in Missoula, Montana with close family in attendance.

I had the pleasure and the honor to work with Steve over many years. First at Deloitte and then with NexLevel and Lopez Consulting Group. Steve was a talented professional and someone who always brought key insights to project and client discussions. He connected with clients and quickly demonstrated his value and talents. I enjoyed teaming with him, as his perspective was different from mine. I knew he would see what I may have missed. I learned a lot from Steve. He was a wealth of knowledge and I enjoyed the discussions we would have as we travelled to different client sites. He also had a wonderful laugh I will always remember!
He loved his family. He was proud of the life he and Julie had created. I enjoyed hearing updates on Julie's career, his daughters and their successes and growth.
It was a joy to have known Steve. His presence made a difference in my life and in the lives of all who had the opportunity to know him.

I had the wonderful pleasure of working with Steve at the Department of Child Support Services. Steve was very articulate and could distill complex technology concepts and workflows into understandable terms for non-technologist. But most importantly, I appreciated his warm, calm, and gentle nature while working side-by-side with him his last couple of work years before he retired.

Steve was a fine gentleman, and one of the smartest and most articulate people I've ever met. He knew a lot about sports, current events, politics, and technology. He was a fun ski partner and we camped in the back of my truck and nearly got blown off Highway 88 by an avalanche. We hiked in Yosemite and attended major-league sports events such as the Oakland As and 49ers. We saw Santana and AC/DC and impressive Fourth of July fireworks. He was always welcoming and opened his home to me many times. I'm sure he's in heaven with his parents, following sports, politics and tech developments with keen interest and much insight!

Steve Madler was an awesome brother-in=law. Whenever I visited my sister, Julie, he made me feel welcome and happy to be there. Always generous and fun to be around. Steve will always have a warm place in my heart. Colleen Beers
