Sue Ryan Obituary

Sue Ryan

April 22, 1954 - September 18, 2024

Sacramento, California - The on-air personality was a pioneering woman's voice in 1980s and 90s radio in Sacramento and Fresno. Sue Ryan had a rabid following of fans proud to call themselves her Little Buckaroos. Her madcap humor delighted fans and friends, and her unmistakable voice was a part of people's mornings. As she moved through her career, she infused her particular brand of humor into Radio Tradio, an on-air forum for trading goods and services, and later, in weather and traffic reports.

Her home reflected her eclectic and wacky sense of style. After she retired, she loved visiting with friends who shared her wicked sense of humor.

She died peacefully at home.

Sue and I were inseperable during the spring-summer of 1974 We worked on films together with our Bolex 16mm cameras and I taught her how to be silly (er) we stayed in touch until we didn't. I can not remember a day that I did not think think about her. She was most gracious and thoughtful. Finding this obit was not a total shock but it ended my dream of seeing her again. I will try to let my other friends from the KPEC-TV days know.

Sue: You Were Never a Lady---- but I sure wish that every lady could be more like you were. =T-Mac=

Our deepest condolences to Sue's loved ones. We were so happy to have her join our family when her mom and our dad were married in 1989. Sue lived life to the fullest and she was a wonderful person.

Had many fun times with this woman. I remember when she bought a Cris Craft ski boat, she had no idea how to launch it or drive it. With Paula and Debbie, she got into Sacramento River for the first time

I worked for several years as a DJ with Sue in the little building on Grass Valley Highway in Auburn that was the home of KAHI/KHYL. For a time, Sue and I collaborated on one of her bits where (as Mr. Riddle), I would "barge" into the studio while she was on-air to tell her a silly brain-teaser. Sorry to hear of her passing. I fondly remember my time there and the staff camaraderie. Sue had an encyclopedic knowledge of 50s/60s oldies and she and I shared a deep appreciation of the tunes we played. My condolences to her family.

Remember her well from her time at KHYL in Auburn. Absolutely loved her on-air style and listened every am. A legend.
