Ted Hinkey Obituary

Ted Hinkey
April 7, 1928 - December 15, 2021
Newcastle, California - Ted Arthur Hinkey was born on April 7, 1928 in Reseda, CA and left us on December 15, 2021 in Newcastle, CA. He is a loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Carpenter, Marine, Prankster and a truly extraordinary man. Ted will be missed dearly and remembered daily by his loving family and friends. Although he is no longer with us in body, he is ingrained in our hearts and souls. Ted is preceded in death by his son, Kurt Hinkey and is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Joyce Hinkey, his children Chris Hinkey, Joe and Mitzi Hinkey, Jan and Mike Nakashoji, Jill Hinkey, Erik and Carie Hinkey and Jenny Hinkey. His grandchildren Casey and Allison Hinkey, Cera Hinkey, Tyler Garnett, Josh and Elise Hinkey, Heidi and Brian Davis, Aaron Nakashoji, Tara Nakashoji, Brian Nakashoji, Erika Pilimai, Tai and Kayleen Pilimai, Joey and Sahara Hinkey, Addie and Josh Newby, Lizzie Hinkey and Nick Hinkey. His great grandchildren Zellie Hinkey, Bryce Hinkey, Adeline Hinkey, Gavin Davis, Macey Davis, Tori Hinkey, Camryn Hinkey, Trevor Hinkey, Isaiah Lewis, Nathan Lewis, Malia Pilimai, Damon Pilimai, Charles Hinkey, Lily Hinkey, Toby Hinkey, Naomi Hinkey, Jaxon Newby and Axel Newby and many more nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and colleagues. Ted graduated from Canoga Park High School in 1946 and joined the Marines. After leaving the Marine Corps, Ted attended several years of college and married Joyce Collins in 1950. He then started a family that eventually grew to seven children. Ted and Joyce moved from Los Angeles, CA to Placer County, CA in 1965 and he continued to grow and enjoy his lifelong career in construction, home building and excavation. His legacy in Placer County can be seen all around from the many beautiful homes he also helped raise the money for and built the 1st pool at Del Oro High School. While raising seven kids and building too many houses to count, Ted joined the Mormon church. He lived with deep faith and strong connection to the Mormon community and served in a variety of roles from Bishop to Financial Clerk. The job he enjoyed the most was that of Cub Scout Master because he got to be a kid again while teaching other kids to do the things he loved. Ted leaves the legacy of an honorable, hard-working, loving, kind, humorous and complicated man to his large family and many friends and we all will strive to honor the example he set. A shining light went out and another angel earned his wings on the night of December 15, 2021. We'll miss you, Dad. Friends and family are invited to attend a viewing on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 from 5-7pm at Price Funeral Chapel (6335 Sunrise Blvd., Citrus Heights, CA 95610), and his funeral service on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at 10am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (287 Poet Smith Dr., Auburn, CA 95603).
