Valerie Linstrum Obituary

Born in Susanville on November 13, 1957 to Angelo and Lonnie Sordi, passed away on October 6, 2010 at age 52, Valerie lived nearly her entire life in the Sacramento area. She was a biking enthusiast, a ballroom dancer, and had traveled to such exotic locales as India, Southeast Asia, Italy, and Israel. Valerie loved tending her garden, but more than that she loved cultivating her friendships among her neighbors and was always there to lend a helping hand to a friend. Her sense of humor, her open personality, and her devotion to her friends will be sorely missed. A memorial gathering will be held on Sunday October 24th at a location near her home in Rancho Cordova - for details on the gathering please email to [email protected]. Services October 24 2010 3:00

Valerie was a great neighbor and a dear friend. We shared many night walks and bike rides and talked for hours about anything and everything. Valerie was the most open and honest and non-judgemental person I have ever known. She gave her all to a friendship and was always there in your time of need. I will miss her dearly and she will always be in my heart. Love you. Cathy Abels

Many of us are grieving the loss of our dear friend and neighbor,Valerie. She had so many colorful layers of personality in her and I feel very fortunate to have known most of them. She's unique in so many ways and truely one of a kind. If you really took the time to get to know Val, you couldn't help but fall in love with her prominent personality. She was humorous yet loved deeply and was always concerned about everyone else. Her selfLESS acts of love always shined through. She placed her "handprint" on so many things in our lives and she will be missed dearly. We will all miss her loving heart of gold, her hearty and healthy laugh, her walks, her bike rides, her knowledge, her midnight gardening and her friendship. Val, may God lift you from this earth and watch over you like you watched over all of us. We love you so much and you'll always be etched in our hearts. Go in peace Ms. V and know that you are loved so much by many.
Your friend, Donna XOXO

I've known Valerie since I was two. I'll be thirteen Nov 1st. She was my friend and neighbor. Val always made me feel welcome when she hung out with my mom and I. I respect her for that. She allowed me to have a voice and to be heard. She always wanted to know how I was doing in school and how I was doing. After my football and baseball games, she would come over to visit with my mom and rub my tired feet. Sometimes for an hour. We would talk, laugh and sometimes even cry, but usually always from laughing so hard. Val was very special to me and I will miss her "Hey you's" as she walks by our front window, her big laugh, walking the dogs together, riding bikes together, her picking me up from school and embarrassing me by yelling out from across the parking lot, "Hey Garrett!!"and just hanging out and talking. We shared a lot of stories. Some about her traveling days. The globe reminds me of Val because she loved to travel the world. She taught me a lot. She was a very kind and gentle person and had a big heart. I hope she's happy now in God's arms. Although we miss her today, I'm looking forward to hearing her loud laugh when I get to heaven myself. Until then, enjoy it up there Val and keep Pa and everyone else laughing. Thanks for spending time with me and making me always feel important even when I was a brat. You will live in my heart forever. Love, Garrett

It is with a heavy heart that I write this for myself and my cousin Sasha who had such fun with Valerie even though he could not speak English They had a great time at Water World and swimming at Lake Tahoe. We will never forget her laugh. I am sorry that she did not see him when he came to visit last year. Our sympathy and thoughts are with you.

I only met Valerie once, but she continued reaching out in her own vibrant and warm manner after that. I am saddened to learn of her passing. People like Valerie leave this world better than they found it. Glad that I met her at least once. Until we meet again near the light at the end of the tunnel. Farewell friend.
