William Barthel Obituary

William Barthel died Sunday, January 20, nine days before his 83rd birthday. He was surrounded by the love of his family and his Lord and Savior as he succumbed to cancer which he has been living with for two years. Bill was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and attended the University of Wisconsin after serving four years in the Air Force. He was a chemical engineer for Chevron for 30 years and through his work lived with his family in Brazil, Texas, Salt Lake City, and New Orleans. He loved tennis and skiing. After his retirement he and his wife enjoyed traveling to New Zealand, Australia, and throughout Europe. Bill was an active member of his church, had a vibrant faith and love for his Lord who he served in many ways throughout his life. He was known for his strength, his faithfulness and his ever-present smile. His life blessed Marcia, his wife of 55 years; his children, Kristen Post (husband, Darren, and son, Seth), Steve (daughter, Haley, and son, Jonathan), daughter, Kerry Barthel, and son, Paul (wife, Sarah, and sons Benjamin, Noah, and Andrew). He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Bill was preceded in death by his older brothers George and Fritz. A Memorial Service will be held on Jan. 26th, 11:00 am at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Rocklin, CA. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the renovation fund of St. Matthew Lutheran Church; Trinity Lutheran Church Preschool, San Rafael, CA; or to a charity of choice.
