Robert Gordon Obituary

SALAMANCA - Robert A. Gordon, 76, of Salamanca, died Monday afternoon (Oct. 3, 2022) at Olean General Hospital, following a short illness.

Born Oct. 19, 1945, in Cornplanter, he was the son of the late Vernon and Lila Abrams Gordon. He was married Aug. 15, 1981, in Salamanca, to the former Marcia Metzler, who survives.

He was an enrolled member of the Seneca Nation of Indians and the Turtle Clan.

Bob had been employed as an equipment operator with the West Valley Nuclear Services Company for over 15 years, retiring in 2001. He co-owned and operated Robert Gordon Enterprises in Salamanca with his wife for 10 years. He had also been employed at the former Seneca Lanes in Salamanca.

He enjoyed socializing, going out to breakfast and evening car rides. He was very generous and helped many individuals and organizations financially. He had a great personality, was always upbeat and joking. He enjoyed bowling and billiards and was an avid Cleveland Browns and Indians fan.

Surviving besides his wife are a son, Robert M. Gordon of Columbus, Ohio; a stepdaughter, Amy Metzler of Salamanca; a granddaughter, Aerie Gordon of Blasdell; a brother-in-law, Malcolm G. Metzler; a sister-in-law, Kathi Sarver, both of Salamanca; and several nieces and nephews.

While I did not know Robert well, I was friends with his brother, David. He and I were classmates, hung out together and hunted for squirrels and rabbits, often cooking them along with some corn "borrowed" from a nearby farmer´s field. I remember the whole Gordon family as being wonderful, genuine people to be around. RIP, Robert.

I remember Mr.Gordon ( he told me to call him Bobby) being one of the nicest people. Always smiling and laughing. We would talk about his youth. He was good friends with my Uncle Dan(dDanny Higbee). One of my favorite stories that was told to me was the time Danny and Bobby found a container of cold cream. Bobby smeared it all over his face then announced " look I´m white like Frank Beirfelt( my great grandfather and the Gordon´s neighbor). " There are so many fun Bobby and Danny stories. May he Rest In Peace and walk among those that have passed before preparing the way for those left on earth to join when out time comes. They live on in our hearts and by the stories we share.
