Albert McKnight Obituary

Albert Donald McKnight, 98, died September 11, 2025, at the V.A. Medical Center Hospice House in Salisbury. Mr. McKnight was born September 10, 1927. to the late Marcus Deaton and Wilma Albright McKnight on his family's farm near China Grove.

After graduating from China Grove High School, Mr. McKnight served in the U.S. Army during World War II where, after completing basic training, he worked as an X-ray technician at the Army hospital in what is now Fort Carson, Colorado. When the war ended, he returned to China Grove where he farmed alongside his father and worked for Cannon Mills.

Mr. McKnight enjoyed woodworking and building and repairing electronics and appliances. He obtained a federal license to build and repair radio-operated equipment that led to a job at the Douglas Aircraft Missile Plant in Charlotte. When the plant closed, Mr. McKnight joined the service department at Montgomery Ward. After the store closed, he bought some of the inventory and started Don's TV and Appliance Repair in Kannapolis which he operated for more than a decade until joining the service department at K-Town Furniture in Kannapolis where he worked until his retirement.

In 1949, he married the late Sadie Nell Ritchie of Mount Ulla. They had three children, Tommy Douglas McKnight (Debbie), of Winterville, Perry Dean McKnight (Robin), of Salisbury, and Julie McKnight (Hurley Stanley), of Salisbury, all of whom survive him. Mr. McKnight is also survived by three grandchildren, Kristina McKnight Stoker (Brian) of Statesville, Michael Douglas McKnight (Catherine) of Cary, and Matthew Taylor McKnight (Judith) of Greenville, and six great-grandchildren: Andrew and Noah Stoker of Statesville; Jack and Madeline McKnight of Cary, and Taylor and Amelia Kate McKnight of Greenville.

Following Sadie's death, Mr. McKnight married the late Priscilla Jones McKnight of Salisbury who died in 2024. From their marriage, Mr. McKnight is survived by stepsons Donnie Stowe of Concord and Steven Stowe (Libby) of King, and step-grandchildren, Samantha and Christopher Stowe of King.

Mr. McKnight was also preceded in death by his brother, Marcus Deaton (M.D.) McKnight, Jr. He is survived by his two sisters, Grace McKnight Reynolds and Doris McKnight Sechler, and sister-in-law, Mary Ann McKnight, all of China Grove. The family will receive friends on September 15,2025, from 1:00pm-2:00pm at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Salisbury where Mr. McKnight was an active member for many years. A funeral service will follow at the church beginning at 2:00pm with burial after the service in the church cemetery.

The family would like to express their appreciation and heartfelt gratitude to all the VA Hospice nurses and doctors for their exceptional care shown to them and especially Chaplin Steve for the root beer floats.
