Carolyn Biddix Obituary

Carolyn Fuller Biddix, 98, died June 9, 2025 from advanced dementia in Virginia at the home of her daughter Katie who lovingly supported her in every step of this difficult process.

Carolyn is survived by four daughters: Cassie Cunningham, Carol Bellis (Rick), Katie Wasden, and Kelly Raymond (William). She had grandchildren Kate Hodgin (Arne), Emily and Alan Bellis, Candice Bowman (Eric), Margaret Gouldin and Walt Raymond and six great-grandchildren.

At 40, Carolyn earned a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from Catawba College. In the following years, she graduated from Wake Forest University with a Master's Degree in Mathematics, her thesis in solid geometry. She taught math and physics for several years at Salisbury High School and then physics at RCCC before turning her talents to complex cost accounting for Kern Rubber Co and Laguna.

Carolyn and her beloved husband Ray built “Dream On” their home in Neal Estates together. They laid dozens of wide brick walks outside creating planting areas in the heavily wooded, sloping acres. Shade plants-exotic and well known-filled their planting beds as they worked hard together on their garden. In later years Carolyn enjoyed sharing her gardening enthusiasm with the Rowan Redbuds Garden Club delighting in their companionship and shared knowledge.

After Ray's death in 2000, Carolyn made a conscious decision to “live life”. She and her daughter Kelly explored the country walking in Yosemite, Mt. Rainier glaciers, the Grand Canyon, Niagara Falls, Detroit and many other locations and events including the Rose Bowl Parade. Carolyn played and hosted Duplicate Bridge, served tables at the Rotary Club, read books with a dedicated lunch group who “discussed the books in depth” and went to a different restaurant every month with two friends after the Computer Club. Living life, indeed.

Trinity Living Center, fortunately discovered for Carolyn by daughter Carol, transformed Carolyn's final years from boring to delight. She had done advanced Circle Dancing all over NC with Ray, but now she danced and sang in simple ways with her new friends at Trinity Living Center. Earlier, Carolyn had done sophisticated oil paintings of everything from Julius Caesar to ears of corn, but now, colorful crafts and painting satisfied the desire to create. Finally, Carolyn got to be queen of the Trinity Living promotion car for the Christmas Parade. Such joy at 97!

Carolyn and Ray's ashes were combined and buried by her family with notes of love in her hometown of Newnan, Georgia. The family plot contains her mother, father, grandmother, grandfather, brother and other Newnan family. A perfect resting place.

Have always wondered what happened to my friend. She headed up our duplicate bridge club but when her memory started going she gave it up. She gave me lots of plants and began a red Camilla for me which is now beautiful in my yard. I loved her. She was dear to me.
