Cecil Beck Obituary

Cecil W. Beck

DRAIN, Ore. - Cecil Warren Beck, 85, of Drain, passed away Jan. 30, 2014.

He was born May 25, 1928, in Salisbury, N.C., to Arthur Bradley and Zelma (Weant) Beck, one of 11 children. Cecil served in the U.S. Navy. He attended Carson Newman College in Johnson City, Tenn., and graduated from East Tennessee State with a bachelor's degree.

Cecil worked for the City of Cottage Grove and Mortier Engineering for 18 years as a building inspector. He was also a high school teacher in Winston-Salem, N.C., and taught at the community college in Clyde, N.C.

He built houses and furniture, enjoyed gardening, raising farm animals and was a hard worker who loved his work. He belonged to Kiwanis Club.

Cecil married Anna May Galloway, Oct. 29, 1955, in Raleigh, N.C.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Anna May Beck, Drain, Ore.; son Joseph Beck (Yachiyo), Mechanicsburg, Pa.; son Thomas Beck, Drain, Ore.; daughter Deborah Edmonson (Preston), Raleigh, N.C.; daughter Donna Beck Sullivan (Brad), Massachusetts; daughter Brenda Knutson (Dan), Weston, Mo.; daughter Laura Beck, Eugene, Ore.; eight grandchildren; and sisters Hilda, Sara "Patsy," Alta and Mary.

He was preceded in death by grandson Tucker Beck.

Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel in Cottage Grove is in charge of arrangements.
