Daisy Nichols Obituary

Mrs. Daisy Irvin Nichols, 85 of Salisbury passed away Saturday, March 11, 2017 at her home. Born June 26, 1931 in Clemmons, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence L. Irvin and Martha Hutchins Irvin. She graduated from Mocksville High School, attended Wake Forest College, Salisbury Business School, Rowan Community College and many courses through American Business College. Mrs. Nichols was employed by Irvin Pontiac Co., Mocksville and Norman's of Salisbury where she retired as Vice President in 1989. Always active in church where she had served as teacher, President of Women of the Church, Deacon, Youth Leader, Mentor, Elder, etc. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and enjoyed many of their activities in the last few years. Active in civic happenings, served as Chairman of Mother's March for March of Dimes, Vice President for Habitat for Humanity Board, established Habitat Re-Sale Shop in Salisbury, was Charter President of the Noon Optimist Club, the first Co-ed Optimist Club in Salisbury and on the Board of High Rock Lake Preservation. She married her high school sweetheart, James C. “Jim” Nichols, in 1949; her children, Cathy Wilson and husband Stan of Chapel Hill, Carl Nichols and wife Jane of Mooresville and Camille Butner and husband Steve of Salisbury; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The joy of her life was her family and church friends. A memorial service will be conducted 11 AM - Thursday (March 16) at St. John's Lutheran Church Faith Center with the Rev. Rhodes Woolly and Rev. Danielle DeNise, Rev. Dr. Robert M. Lewis officiating. The family will have a Celebration of Life Gathering in the Peeler Hall following the service. Memorials may be to St. John's Lutheran Church Guatemalan Mission, 200 W. Innes Street, Salisbury, NC 28144 or Rowan Hospice and Palliative Care, 720 Grove Street, Salisbury, NC 28144.
