David Moxley Obituary

My dearest brother, David, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2019, in Salisbury, after a brief illness. The son of Elmer A. Moxley and Mildred W. Moxley, David was born on Aug. 26, 1957, in Chattanooga, Tenn. David graduated from Reynolds High School in Asheville, in 1977. He was employed at Rowan Vocational Opportunities in Salisbury for many years. He is survived by Melody Moxley (sister) of Salisbury as well as Donald E. Womack (uncle), Joyce K. Womack (aunt) and Martha W. Neff (aunt), all of Chattanooga, Tenn., as well as several cousins. David was a loving brother, a steadfast friend, and a caring person. Despite the many challenges he faced, he lived valiantly and boldly. David had a sly smile and an interest in many things, especially reading, travel, NASCAR, wildlife of all varieties, movies, and television. He was an authority on anything Star Trek and an eminent collector of Mr. Spock memorabilia. David had a very special friend in Toby, a happy little beagle who was a beloved part of David's life for 10 years, and before Toby there were several other loyal and special friends of the four-legged variety. I am honored and blessed to have had David as my brother and will miss him terribly but also know that David was cared for by a loving God and is now asleep in Jesus. Service & Visitation: A memorial service will be held in the Chapel of St. John's Lutheran Church, Salisbury, at 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 11, 2019. Visitation will be held prior to the service in Peeler Hall from noon until 1 p.m. Interment will follow at the Salisbury VA National Cemetery. Memorials: Memorials may be directed to the Elmer and Mildred Moxley Endowment of the Rowan Public Library Foundation, 201 West Fisher St., Salisbury, NC, 28144. Summersett Funeral Home is serving the Moxley family. Online condolences may be made at www.summersettfuneralhome.com.

David was such a mischievous guy! I've known him since 1972 and he was always teasing me! He adored surprises and hated having to wait for them. "What is it? "What is it?" "Tell me..." I am sure Heaven will be the best surprise ever for him! Love you David and hope you are happy with your mom, dad and Toby. We'll miss you buddy.

David will be missed by many. He was such an interesting man. He enjoyed talking about dogs, animals, Star Trek, old movies and TV shows, traveling and many other subjects. He loved his sister, Melody with all his heart and he was blessed to have such a strong friend and advocate in her. Continued prayer for Melody and David's other family members.
