Doris Holshouser File

Doris Holshouser File, 87, of Salisbury, passed to her heavenly home on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at her residence.

She was born May 20, 1938, in Rowan County, to Luther Henry Holshouser, Sr. and Gatha Lentz Holshouser. Mrs. File was a graduate of Rockwell High School and Catawba College. Following graduation from Catawba, she took a teaching position at Morgan School where she would remain for her entire 30 year career in education. Mrs. File was a lifelong member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church. She was an avid gardener who could make any plant thrive; for many years, she enjoyed sharing her gifts with others through her vegetable stand at her home. She was a talented softball pitcher with Trexler Trucking, where she picked up the nickname "Dozer." Mrs. File loved to fish, taking trips to the beach, going out to eat, and "just riding through the country." More than anything, she supported her grandchildren and always looked forward to watching them play sports.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. File is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Ray File; brother, Luther Holshouser, Jr.; and sister, Edith Ritchie.

She is survived by her four sons, Frank File (Laurie), Doug File (Tammy), Randy File, Tom File (Angela), all of Salisbury; brother, Donald Holshouser; 11 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.

The family will greet friends and relatives from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Wednesday, May 28, at Powles Staton Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, May 29, at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Dr. Jarrod Lanning officiating.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family of Mrs. File would like to extend a special thank you to her caregivers, Vicky Burchette, Brooke Elium, Charlotte Brown, Debbie McLaughlin, Trista McLaughlin, Connie Honeycutt, Kameron Peeler, for their years of loving care.
