Evelyn Foster Obituary

Evelyn Karriker Foster, 91, of Salisbury passed away Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at her home. Born September 4, 1930 in Rowan County she was raised in Mt. Ulla on the family farm, and was the daughter of the late Marvin Thomas Karriker and Sadie Ruth Graham Karriker. She was educated and graduated from Mt. Ulla school and Mitchell Junior College, Statesville. Early in her career, she was employed by Stanback Company. She was a homemaker and later worked at North Rowan Elementary School in food service before retiring. She was a lifelong member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Mt. Ulla where she served and was active in various roles in the church and the community. She was especially thankful for the time that she was able to serve children in the Kindergarten and first grade Sunday School Class. Her greatest love was her family. She had a heart for serving neighbors and friends in need. She took pride in all aspects of family life. She was talented at cooking, baking, gardening, and sewing/quilting. Mrs. Foster took joy in sharing her talents and much more with others in the community. One of her greatest joys was raising and tending chickens for over 50 years. The connections she made through sharing eggs with friends & family over the years gave her great happiness and fulfillment. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Hoyle Foster on January 5, 2004, a son, Hoyle Kevin Foster; and a sister, Ruth Hodge. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Kaye Foster Sheets (Larry) of Cleveland, Jean Watts of Salisbury, and Leigh Ferstein (Josh) of Chicago, IL; sister, Nena Faye Gibson of Mooresville; grandchildren, Christy File (Justin), Katie Sheets, Clay Sheets (Jessica), Russell Foster (Candice), Leslie Foster (Alex), Loriana Arguello-Foster, Lauren Watts, Haley Walls, and Eliza Ferstein; great-grandchildren, Sarah Foster, Zeb Foster, Zain Foster and Leah Sheets; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Arrangements: A Graveside Service will be conducted 4 PM Saturday (Sept.11) at St. Luke's Lutheran Church Cemetery with the Rev. Scott Swix, minister of St. Luke's Lutheran Church officiating. The family will receive friends from 3-6 PM Thursday and Friday at the home. Memorials: Memorials may be made to St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 11020 North Carolina Hwy. 801 Mt. Ulla, North Carolina 28125, or the charity or organization of the donor's choice. Summersett Funeral Home is serving the Foster family. Many precious memories

I lived on the road beside her house for about 12 years growing up. She was the kindest lady. She was always outside tending to her chickens and her garden. She always greeted us kids with a smile and almost always sent us home with fresh fruits/veggies from her garden. She was always so kind and giving. So blessed to have known such a warm hearted lady. May God bless her family and friends to whom I send my deepest condolences.
