Floyd Sloan Obituary
SALISBURY - Floyd Alexander Sloan, Sr., age 81, died Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at Brian Nursing Center.
He was born in Iredell County on Jan. 14, 1928, to the late Thomas and Minnie Westmoreland Sloan.
Educated in the public schools of Iredell County. He retired from Rowan Business Forms as a supervisor and previously employed at Salisbury Flower Shop.
A member of Sills Creek A.M.E. Zion Church, where he was a former trustee board chairman, member of the Men's Booster Club, Choir, Lay Council, Parent Body of the Missionary Society and former Superintendent of the Sunday School. He was also a member of the Masons, Eureka Lodge of the Scottish Rite Affiliate and former treasurer of Hawkinstown Community Club.
In addition to his parent's, he was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Sloan.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Geraldine Hawkins Sloan of the home; sons, Floyd A. Sloan, Jr. (Helen), Pittsburgh, Pa., Darrell Sloan, Salisbury and Willie Tabor, Atlanta, Ga.; daughters, Pauline Joanne (Lester) Huntley, Atlanta, Ga. and Mary Tabor, Salisbury; sister, Evangelist Lucille Wilson (Lewis), Salisbury; sister-in-laws, Ann Sloan, Lexington and Doretha KnoxMoore Sloan, Salisbury; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a hosts of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Service and Burial: Funeral service will be at 1 p.m., Tuesday at Sills Creek A.M.E. Zion Church; Rev. Jordan Boyd, Pastor, Eulogist and Bishop Harvey Rice, Officiant. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation: 12-1 p.m. at the church.

To The Sloan Family,
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. May these words from Proverbs 3:5 be a comfort to you all during this time of sorrow. Mr Floyd was a great role model for all the young men growing up in Hawkinstown we all loved him for his counseling and advice he shared with us he will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
