George Maxwell Obituary

George Edward Maxwell, a proud veteran of the United States Army passed away, October 3, 2023, at his residence. He was born February 2, 1950, to Mildred Maxwell Wilson and the late Robert Mitchell in Salisbury, North Carolina.

He attended Price high school. At the age of 18, George enlisted in the United States Army. He valued his service. While in Army he obtained the Rank of Sergeant, the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Service Star's, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 DEV, and one Overseas Bar.

George will forever be remembered for his loving big heart. He was the family prankster, chef, and one could go to him for any advice. He was a strong and wise man, who often gave the shirt off his back.

George Maxwell is preceded in death by his father, Robert Mitchell; maternal grandparents, George and Minnie Maxwell; son, Benny Cubit; granddaughter, Reanna Skannal; and grandson, Lawrence Maxwell.

George Maxwell is survived by his mother, Mildred Maxwell Wilson; daughters, Harlene Maxwell, Kansas City, MO, Devon Maxwell Kannapolis, NC, Janise Cubit, Tampa, Florida, Candace Cubit, Kansas City, MO; sons, Renard Maxwell East Spencer, NC, and George Maxwell, Charlotte NC; sister, Naomi Houston, Salisbury NC, and Rosa (Mike) Greene, Salisbury NC, Patricia Maxwell, Salisbury NC; eighteen grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; a special nephew Richard Maxwell and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

A service honoring the life of George Maxwell will be held, Thursday, October 19, 2023, at Tower of Power United Holy Church at 12 P.M., Interment will follow in the Salisbury National Cemetery. The family will be receiving visitors at the home of his mother, 312 Harrell St., Salisbury, NC.
