Mrs. Mary Jane Ross, 86, of Dewey, died at 8:30 A.M. on Thursday, August 18, 2011 at her home in Dewey.
Funeral services for Mrs. Ross will be held at 11 A.M. on Monday, August 22, 2011 at the Dewey Church of Christ with her grandson, Casey Parham officiating. Interment will be held at 2 P.M. on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at the Highland Cemetery in Durant, Oklahoma directed by the Stumpff Funeral Home & Crematory.
Casket escorts will include Tim Sanders, Justin Lewis, Von Helmer, Branden Daniels, Steve Meadors, Layne Parham and Hunter Sanders.
The Ross family will receive guests for visitation at the Stumpff Funeral Home on Sunday afternoon from 4 PM until 6 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial donations in her name to their favorite children's home or their favorite missionary.
Mrs. Ross was born at Gurdon, Arkansas on September 12, 1924 the daughter of George Arthur and Florence (Hardage) Nix. She grew up in Arkansas until moving with her family at the age of 5 to Blue, Oklahoma where she attended schools and graduated from high school. She was then employed at the Burr Drug Store in Durant and was married to Bill J. Ross in April of 1947 at Durant. They made their home in Durant until moving to Washington County where Mr. Ross was employed with Phillips Petroleum Company, making their homes first in Bartlesville and Copan until settling in Dewey. Mrs. Ross was active as a stay at home mother and homemaker and later was employed at Windle's Rock Shop and McCoy Jewelers. Mr. Ross preceded her in death on June 2, 1981 and she has continued her home in Dewey. She had a strong faith and lived a Christian life. She was a member of the Dewey Church of Christ.
Mrs. Ross is survived by two daughters, Martha Ross Meadors and husband Steve of Bartlesville, Beverly Ross of Dewey, one son, Joe Ross of Ramona, one sister, Tilda Caruthers of Velma, Okla., one brother, Weldon Nix of Tucson, Arizona, her good friend , Ann Sheets of Dewey, seven grandchildren, Heather Sanders and husband Tim, Holly Lewis and husband Justin, Layne Parham and wife Shauna, Jessie Helmer and husband Von, Casey Parham and wife Shanna, Carrie Daniels and husband, Branden and Sonnie Jo Ross, Nine great grandchildren, Hunter and Taryn Sanders, Kaylee and Braden Lewis, Ava Parham, Mylea Helmer, Isaiah and Lauren Parham and Laney Kate and Landon Daniels, and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Ross was also preceded in death by her parents and one brother.
