Herbert Lee Stringer CLEVELAND - Herbert Lee Stringer, of 4430 Needmore Road, died Tuesday (Nov. 8, 2005) at Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. Mr. Stringer was born in Rowan County Nov. 12, 1926, to the late George and Hannah Davidson Stringer. He spent the earlier part of his life in Cleveland and was educated in the Rowan County public schools. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1946. He attended N.C. A &T State University, earning a diploma in auto mechanics in 1950. He married his sweetheart, Mae Audrey Lucille Cowan, in August 1950, whom he fondly called "Pee Wee." "Pop" or "Uncle Herb," as he was affectionately called by many, experienced his happiest moments while fellowshipping with his Church of Christ family, in addition to sharing a lifelong passion for hunting, fishing and traveling throughout the states and abroad with his family and numerous devoted friends. On Nov. 8. at 1:30 a.m., "Pop" passed away serenely and peacefully with his wife, Mae Audrey, and children at his side, his son Michael reading his most loved scriptures as he was placed in the hands of a just God nearly three weeks after being admitted to the hospital. He was most fortunate to have a lifelong friend in Mr. Willie Kemper of Detroit and the love of his military sons, Chief Perry Sims and wife Karon and Major Anthony Williams and wife Martha, both members of the United States Air Force. Services : Saturday at 1 p.m. at Rock Hill Church of Christ in Cleveland with Brother Anthony Reese, pastor, officiating and Brother Perry Sims, eulogist. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
