Barbara Doby Obituary
She was born April 4, 1936, in Rowan County and was the daughter of the late Lee Arthur Crowder and Amanda Nix Crowder.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was also preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Charles Wesley Doby; her daughter, Beverly Doby and two brothers, Larry Crowder and Buddy Crowder.
She was a member of China Grove First Baptist Church, where she served as Board of Trustee Chairman.
Barbara was greatly involved in many organizations and served her community well. She was a founding member of the Historical Society; a member of the Board of Trade, which founded the China Grove Farmer's Day and served as an Alderman with the Town of China Grove. She also served on the North Carolina Prison Board under Governor Hunt.
Those left to cherish her memories are her sons, Gene Doby and Yancey Doby; daughters, Frankie Doby and Tobitha Stewart (husband Ashley Stewart) and one sister, Joy Deal.
She is further survived by her grandchildren, Donna Huffman (Wayne), Paula Collins (Cory), Brock Doby (Alisha), Chiffonia ""Punkin"" Doby, Wesley Honeycutt, Kaila Honeycutt, Josh Doby, Eric Underwood and Reagan Smith.; great-grandchildren, Chanelle Doby, Trevor Doby, Devin Doby, Michael Huffman, Brandon Huffman, Justin Terrones, Celine Terrones, Caleb Collins, Saddie Honeycutt, Caysen Doby and Collins Doby and three great-great grandchildren, Jordan Doby, Blakelynn Brahman and Maizie Huffman.
The family will receive friends Friday, October 10, 2025, from 12:00 PM – 1:30 PM at China Grove First Baptist Church.
The funeral service will begin at 1:30 PM at the church with Rev. Steve Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park.

Dear Yancey and Gene,
I want to send you my deapest sympathy across the wide ocean. I'm very sad about the passing away of your Mom who ever greeted me when I've called her: "Honey, honey, I love you!" She'll stay in my mind as long as I live and my THANK HER goes back to 1974 at my second visit in the States with the Murphy-family in Salisbury. I'll send you a letter. GST
