Jannie Cornelius Obituary

Mrs. Jannie Sarah Stockton Cornelius, age 87, daughter of the late Abraham and Nancy Burton Stockton, was born Nov. 10, 1927, in Mooresville, answered the call of her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 22, 2015. Her Savior proclaimed that her task on earth was complete and summoned her to receive her heavenly reward and enter into heavens gates. She attended R.A. Clement, Cleveland. Her previous employment was Burlington Mills, Mooresville, Cone Mill, Salisbury, and Rowan County Social Service Foster Care. Janie Cornelius was a member of Sills Creek AME Zion Church, Mooresville. She was a faithful member of Deaconess Ministry, Life Member, Lay Council and Missionary. In addition to being preceded in death by her parents, she was also preceded in death by a husband, Rev. Frank Louis Cornelius, who died Sept. 4, 2005; son Robert Louis Cornelius, who died July 18, 1982; sisters Laura Chambers, Inez Sloan, Banner Fleming, Christine Shaver and Bessie Vaughn (raised as sibling); brothers Robert Stockton and Foster Stockton. Those who shall forever cherish her memory are daughters Cathelene (Hubert) Cornelius, Salisbury, Michael Cornelius, Atlanta, Ga., Sarah Delores Bowden and Annie McDaniel, both of Kannapolis; daughter-in-law Phyllis Cornelius, Mooresville; brother Roosevelt (Lily) Stockton; sister Valentine Partee, Washington, D.C.; godchildren Brenda (Clement) Sherrill, Salisbury, and Alay Byers, Charlotte; grandchildren Felicia Brown, Robin and Tonya Cornelius, Timothy Gibson, Keshena and Brandon Bowden, Antonio, Marnita and Jerome McDaniel; great-grandchildren Quientarrus Brown, Denijiah and Arayza Brown, Tariya Tenor and Kensley Gibson; great-great-grandchild Janiyah Brown; and a host of sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Services will be held on Sunday, July 26 at Sills Creek AME Zion Church with the visitation at 2:30 p.m. and funeral at 3:30 p.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Morgan Glenn, pastor, officiating and Rev. Rudoloph Cornelius, pastor, Zion Wesley AME Zion Church, Troutman, Eulogist. Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home, Inc. is assisting the Cornelius family. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. God saw she was tried and lonely missing her longtime partner in the ministry down here so he touch her higher so they can praise and rejoice together again. I pray God comfort and strengthen the family during this difficult time. Cherish the memories and hold on to each other. Love to the family.
