Jeff Freirich Obituary

Jeff Robert Freirich

SALISBURY - Jeff Robert Freirich, 61, of Salisbury, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007 at his home after a two-year struggle with pancreatic cancer.

Born July 29, 1946 in Long Island, N.Y., he is the son of Jerry Freirich of Long Island, N.Y. and the late Constance Benson Freirich. He graduated with a BA from Dartmouth College, NH, in 1968, and received an MBA from Columbia University, N.Y., in 1970. During these years, he proudly served his country with the New York National Guard, in an airborne unit.

In the tradition of his father and grandfather, he worked as president and owner of Freirich Foods Incorporated, which was founded by his grandfather, Julian, in Long Island City, N.Y., in the 1920's. He relocated the business and his family to Salisbury in 1985.

Mr. Freirich was very active in the Salisbury community as a leader and philanthropist. He served as a board member of Salisbury Academy, Waterworks Art Gallery, and Temple Israel. He was a participating member of Temple Israel for 22 years.

An avid reader, he was a self-educated historian and archeology buff. He loved to dance with his wife, Digna, and play tennis and golf, computer and board games, with his children. Above all, he was devoted to his beloved family.

Other than his father, survivors include his loving wife, Digna Pruna Freirich; his three children and two step-children and their spouses, Rabbi Jonathan and Ginny Freirich of Stateline, Nev., Paul and Carrie Bardinas of Salisbury, N.C., Elizabeth Freirich and Saul Kaiserman of New York, N.Y., Daniel Bardinas of Salisbury, Tanya Freirich of Salisbury; his three siblings and their spouses, Stephanie and Gordon Taylor of Long Beach, Calif., Roy and Debrah Freirich of Malibu, Calif., and Amy and Paul Curtis of Seattle, Wash. and his grandchildren, Noah William Bardinas and Judah Ilan Reel Freirich.

I have known Jeff for approximately 8 years, and without him taking a chance on me to enter into the Beef industry, I would not be at the point I am in my life now. Jeff personally reached out to help me and my family twice in the time I've known him and for that I am eternally grateful. From my family to the Freirich family (and especially Digna, Paul, Danny and Tonya) we send our condolences and our prayers.
