JoAnna Bost Fitzgerald

JoAnna Bost Fitzgerald, 75, died on Sunday, June 13, 2021, at Carolinas Medical Center (Main) in Charlotte, North Carolina. She had health problems for some time, however her passing was unexpected. She was born January 19, 1946, to Jay Bost and Helen Ellis Bost. A 1963 graduate of R. A. Clement High School, she received a Bachelor of Social Work from Livingstone College in 1983. She was awarded a $13,000 fellowship by Ohio State University and earned a Master of Social Work there in 1984. She was last employed as an In-Home Aide Supervisor with Mecklenburg County Department of Social Services and was the county employee of the year in 1995. An active member of Holiness Church of Christ for about forty years, she served as pastor of the local assembly in Spencer, North Carolina for about fourteen years. She wrote her autobiography, “Through the Water and the Fire”, and inspired many. She was preceded in death by both parents; a sister, Maxine Bost Cornelius; brothers, Jay Henry Bost and Larry Bost; and a grandson, Kalyn Brown. Left to cherish her memory are her aunt who reared her, Ruth Wood; sons, Roderick “Ricky” Fitzgerald and Derrick “Dizzy” Fitzgerald; daughters, Dionne (Derick) Brown, and Rhonda Fitzgerald, all of Charlotte; sisters, Dorothy (William) Scott, of Cleveland, Sandra Glaspy, Cynthia Bost, and Cathy (Rodney) Eldridge, all of Salisbury; brothers, Norman Bost of Asheville and Elvie Bost of Salisbury; six grandchildren, Nakevia “Nikki” Toomer of Winston-Salem, Christopher Toomer of Salisbury, Mario Fitzgerald of Brooklyn, New York, Imani Fitzgerald of Portland, Oregon, Darius Brown, and Demetrius Brown both of Charlotte; six great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Arrangements: There will be a Public Walk-Thru on Sunday, June 20, 2021 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm at Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home, Inc., Salisbury. Funeral Service 1:00 pm Monday, June 21, 2021 at Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church, Salisbury. Burial following service at Rowan Memorial Park.
