Joel Wayne Yates

1936 - 2021

Joel Wayne Yates, 85, of China Grove passed away Saturday Nov. 27, 2021, at Angels at Heart. He is the son of the late Fannie Lee Clampet Yates and Willie Price Yates born in Cabarrus County on July 5, 1936. Joel served his country as a Sergeant in the US Army then started a career in law enforcement as a Cabarrus County Sherriff, Kannapolis Police Officer and as a NC State Law Enforcement Chemical Analysis Educator before retiring in 1995. He enjoyed being in the outdoors by hunting and fishing, he loved nascar and woodworking. He was also a Mason. He is preceded in death by both parents; daughter, Debbie Yates; brother, Price Yates; sisters, Willie Mae Yates & Colleen Yates Henry. Those left to cherish him are his sons, Adam Wayne Yates Jordan (Rahshun) of Kansas City Mo., Joel Wayne Yates II (Debbie) of Salisbury; grandchildren, Stacy Adams, Caitlyn Goodnight, Matt Yates, Cameron Yates; great grandchildren, Everlee Yates & Jacob Buckley. Arrangements: Funeral service will be held at Salisbury National Cemetery Friday Dec. 10 at 2 p.m. with Military Honors given by the Lyerly Volunteer Joint Services Honor Guard.
