John Gobble

1933 - 2021

Mr. John Madison (Johnny) Gobble, age 87 of Brown Street, Denton, NC died Saturday, February 20 at Wake Forest Baptist High Point Hospital. Mr. Gobble was born May 31, 1933 in Davidson County to Elijah J Gobble and Eva Eller Gobble. He retired from the maintenance department of Cannon Mills and was also a retired Baptist Minister having served as pastor of Community Baptist Church in Mocksville and High Rock Baptist Church in Denton. He was a charter member of Canaan Baptist Church in Salisbury and for the past 14 years had been a member of Bethel Baptist Church where he had served as a Sunday School Teacher, Outreach Leader, Shut In Ministry Leader, Choir Director, Congregational Song Leader, Soloist, Bass Player and had served on the Pastor Search Committee. He had coached Little League, Babe Ruth and Pony League for 12 years in Rowan County. He helped organize Junior Football League. He was a veteran of the U S Army National Guard. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 4 sisters and by a son, Donald Gobble and a grandchild Cristy Michael. He is survived by his wife Betty Scott Gobble; sons, Michael Gobble and wife Sherry of Granite Quary, and James Gobble of Spencer; step-daughters, Vickie Brown and husband Randy of Lexington and Tina Lanier and husband Michael of Denton; sisters, Bonnie Deal of Lexington and Sandra Hunt and husband Paul of Thomasville; grandchildren, Jeff Gobble, Brian Gobble, Lisa Taylor and Matthew Lanier; 8 great grandchildren. Serivce: A Graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 24 at Mountain View Memorial Gardens with Rev. David Lancaster, Rev. Gerald Ward and Brother Jerry Harrison.
