John Spillman Obituary

Mr. John Austin Spillman, 88, of N. Main Street, died Monday, Oct. 1, 2018, at Bermuda Village Healthcare Center. He was born May 16, 1930, in Rowan County to the late Calvin McKinley and Mickey Elizabeth Tutterow Spillman. Mr. Spillman was owner and operator of Bonanza Mobile Homes. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Spillman was Commander of the Coast Guard Auxillary at Murrells Inlet, S.C. He was a 32nd degree Master Mason of Mocksville Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. #134 where he had been a 57 year member and was a Shriner. Mr. Spillman enjoyed coastal fishing and hunting. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Cochran Spillman; and siblings, Polly Swicegood, Mildred Harwood and Bo Spillman. Survivors include three children, Mickey Spillman Smith (Billy) of Salisbury, Terry Spillman Logan (Terry) of Harmony and Eddie Austin Spillman (Lisa) of Mocksville; three stepdaughters, Victoria Stowers, Connie Stewart of Wilmington and Vickie Cochran; eight grandchildren, Matthew Smith, Austin Smith, Jacob Smith (fiancée Kayla), Jeremy Thompson (Adria), Kayla Thompson McCrary (Tom), Brandi Logan Cayton (Sandon), Cody Logan (Karen) and Ashlee Paige Spillman; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Lois Brown (Greer) of Kannapolis; special friend, Mary Alice Hasty of Pinehurst; and many cherished nieces and nephews. Service & Visitation: A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, 2018 at Eaton Funeral Chapel with Mr. R. D. McDaniel officiating. Interment will follow in Deep Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Yadkinville with military graveside rites conducted by the V.F.W. Memorial Honor Guard and Masonic Rites. The family will receive friends 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2018 at the funeral home. Memorials: The family requests that memorials be considered for Trellis Supportive Care, 377 Hospital St., Ste. 103, Mocksville, NC 27028; Oxford Masonic Children's Home, 600 College St., 27565; or Shriner's Hospitals for Children, 950 W. Faris Rd., Greenville, SC 29605. The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff at Greystone at Bermuda Village and Trellis Supportive Care. I did not know John Austin personally, but I do know his niece, Julie Spillman Koontz. I am sad to read of his death. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this time.
