Joshua Michael Poteat

KANNAPOLIS - Joshua Michael "Josh" Poteat, 29, of Kannapolis, died Saturday, Aug. 13, 2011, at his home. Death was unexpected.

Josh was born Aug. 9, 1982, in Cabarrus County, the son of Mark David Poteat and Karen Joplin Poteat. He was a lifelong area resident, graduating from South Rowan High School in 2000. Josh was a machinist at Poteat's Engine Rebuilding in Kannapolis.

He was a member of North Kannapolis Wesleyan Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, spending time on the lake and working in the shop. Josh was a beloved son, brother, grandson and friend. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Clyde L. Poteat.

In addition to his parents, Josh is survived by his two sisters, Carrie Poteat Seldomridge and husband Andrew and Taylor Joplin; paternal grandmother, Betty Jo Poteat; and maternal grandparents, Olin and Catherine Joplin, all of Kannapolis. He is also survived by many beloved aunts, uncles and cousins.

Service: Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17 at North Kannapolis Wesleyan Church, with Rev. Steven Cline and Rev. Trent Patterson officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: The family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home Tuesday, Aug. 16 from 7 to 9 p.m. At other times, they will be at the family home.

Memorials: May be made in lieu of flowers to North Kannapolis Wesleyan Church, Sanctuary Fund, 314 W. 12th St., Kannapolis, NC 28021
