Joyce Kearns Ingram, 95 years old, passed away Saturday, September 20, 2025 at TerraBella of Salisbury in Salisbury, NC.
Born May 15, 1930 in High Point, NC, she was the daughter of Robert Roy Kearns and Bernice Spencer Kearns.
She was educated in the High Point City Schools and High Point College (now High Point University) where she was a member of The Order of the Lighted Lamp and Alpha Theta Psi Sorority. She graduated Magna Cum Laude and was salutatorian of the Class of 1952. She taught English at Bethany High School in Rockingham County and at Jamestown High School in Guilford County.
She married Kenneth Ingram June 14, 1953.
Joyce was a member of First United Methodist Church and served as President and pianist of the Friendly Sunday School Class and a member of the United Methodist Women where she received a Life Membership Pin for service. She also served as President and secretary of the Methodist Connection, a member of the Celebration Choir, Representative to Church W o men United, and served on the Altar Guild as chairperson. She was a volunteer at Rowan Regional Medical Center, delivered Meals on Wheels and served at The Rotary Club, and a member of the Charity League.
She was well known for presenting nostalgic type programs to senior groups and clubs. There were many requests for her programs on "Front Porches, Wash Day, and medicines we used to take," and many others. The most popular was "Aprons" that she presented over 80 times.
Joyce's greatest pride and largest blessing was her two grandsons who she would brag about to anyone and everyone.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 66 years, and a sister Elna Kearns Boyles of Front Royal, Va.
Survivors include daughter, Cheryl Barefoot-Whitley (husband Steven Whitley) of Rockwell, NC, son, Gary Kenneth Ingram of Salisbury, NC, grandsons, Travis Alan Barefoot (wife Ashley) of Mills River, NC and Austin Dean Barefoot of Greensboro, NC. Special nieces and nephews, in Front Royal, Va and High Point, NC who always had a special place in her life.
The family would like to thank the staff at Terra Bella for the care and love that was given to Joyce for the last few years. And a very special thank you to the staff of Trellis Supportive Care for their loving care, support, and kindness during the final days.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, in the Powles Staton Funeral Home Chapel, Rockwell, NC. Burial will follow in the Floral Gardens Cemetery .
